Reaching for his shotgun, he readies himself before giving one final glance at the Princess.

“It might get ugly out there.”

He steps forward, eyeing the blade in the Princess’s hand, if for but a moment.

Trust isn’t an easy thing for him, after everything he’s been through, but. .

They don’t seem dangerous. Here’s hoping freeing her doesn’t end up biting him in the ass.

Sawdust flies as he pushes through with his Shield-saw, only to rear back and give it one mighty kick.

Surely that would be enough to open it. . right?

He can do much more than just pry.

“. . This might get a little messy.”

As they step to the side, the Slayer yanks the pull-cord on the back of his shield. .

. . and the saw comes to life with a mechanical roar.

He gives it a couple revs, before sinking it right into the door.

BRUMMZZTT!!

Shield in hand, he makes his way up the stairs, brows furrowed.

“. . This isn’t right.”

Something doesn’t want them getting out of this dingy basement. Whatever it is. .

“. . . Is something on the other side?”

Silently, he nods back in response. The Slayer picks his helmet up and off of the floor before putting it back on.

Slowly, the warrior follows behind the Princess — stopping to gather his weapons.

That’s when he hears the door slam shut. Of course. .

I’m on vacation right now but I remembered this so. Y’know. EVENTUALLY. I have some written up already but, y’know.

His head slowly turns to meet their stare — waiting, watching for their next move.

They’re free. What now?

What kind of monster chains a princess and leaves them to rot?

The question rings through the Slayer’s head, retribution heavy on his mind.

He grabs at the base and the chain linking it, pulling and pulling until—

SNAP.

The metal clatters to the floor as he lets go of their bindings.

The Slayer just shakes his head, before firmly taking hold of the chain with both hands.

“No,” he replies.

With a deep breath, he pulls hard, trying to break the chain from it’s place in the wall.

[ The Slayer nods in return. No one should be chained to their own fate, he thinks. ]

Our paths might diverge, but. . we share the same goal in mind.

Some things have to be done for the greater good.

[ At that, the Slayer looks solemn, his stance relaxing. ]

. . . If that’s your only shot, then. .

Make it count.

He nods to her, then the wall.

He’s silent for a while, still staring at the chains. Then, his eye twitches. Something sparks inside him, and he stands back up, towering over her.

“If it bleeds. . we can kill it.”

The Slayer stomps his way over to the wall, where the opposite end of the chain was binded.

The Slayer kneels, getting on the Princess’s level. He eyes the chains that bind her for a moment, before his gaze meets hers.

“. . Yes.”

There’s years of fury behind those words, stowed into something more. . focused. Calculated.
