#REVIEW: Making Enemies: Monster Design Inspiration for Tabletop Roleplaying Games, by Keith Ammann We’ll begin with my absolute favorite thing for book reviews: Disclaimers!

.@infinitefreetime.com on MAKING ENEMIES: "The reason I feel so comfortable recommending what by rights ought to be a very niche book to everyone I know who reads is that Keith’s enthusiasm for game design and TTRPGs shines through every page of this book."

Coming soon: Dungeons of Drakkenheim: Daggerheart The ENNIE Award winning adventure redesigned for Daggerheart.

Excited to see Dungeons of Drakkenheim for Daggerheart being announced. Monty and Kelly are amazing creators, and I love what I'm seeing coming from their collaboration thus far with Mike Underwood. This has a lot of potential to be truly groundbreaking: www.kickstarter.com/projects/dun...

For the curious, another great series on adventure writing and TTRPG publishing is @josephrlewis.bsky.social's youtube. He walks through a lot of both general and specific topics, very useful stuff!

It really is an invaluable overview. I love that they didn't dance around how vague and "it depends" a lot of the choices can be either.

I'm still working towards the day I can afford developmental editors.. That'll be truly glorious. That'll come before offset press for sure.

People spend more time talking about unimportant things they hate than they do talking about things they love. Social media would be a lot better if people spent time talking about things they love!

Makes me wonder, what are the historically authentic eldritch horrors from beyond space and time which warp reality with the merest hint of their extension into our reality?

..Pinkertons? Singing Barbers? Oklahomans, where the wind comes sweeping down the range?..

Cover art in the style of a vintage comic book. A the bottom of a twisted staircase, a bold women clad in armor and wearing a white hooded cloak is holding a torch, a sword in her free hand, guiding her party inside an dark dungeon. She's followed by a goblin wizard holding an orb and a stout bearded warrior weilding a war hammer. On the foreground, a moustached elf is struggling to read a map. In the background an elf archer is about to shoot a weird winged creature emerging from the shadows. All around them, the dungeon is teeming with menacing creatures of all kind. Gargoyles, giant insects, distorted things with tentacles and many eyes. High above, the dungeon entrance looks like a gaping maw. There's a little rabbit scurrying inside its hole in the bottom right corner, reminding of the brand's name "Rabbit hole".

This month's issue opens with a short essay about my love for earnest, personal, and vulnerable work.

In a way, art and design has never been smoother, easier, safer, or more transactional than it is nowβ€”rpgs includedβ€”but what I love most about tabletop...

Sad to hear about the passing of the Michelangelo of Movie posters, RENATO CASARO. The Man painted so many iconic posters, specially in the 70s/80s: CONAN, TERMINATOR, DUNE, TOTAL RECALL, DANCE WITH THE WOLVES, BLOW OUT, FLASH GORDON, RAMBO, NEVER-ENDING STORY, and the list goes on and on. 1/2

You can get a pretty basic idea of the costs by looking at the differences between various print-on-demand shops. DTRPG, Ingram Spark, & Amazon all use Lightning Press, which traditionally has been the lowest cost. Higher quality from Mixam, Lulu, Print Ninja, etc. all have big differences. 2/2

Costs and the ratio of acceptable profits are different for every production. US production is considerably more expensive than overseas, even for lower quality materials. Larger companies have a higher burn rate, and often look for ways to earn more per unit as a result. 1/2
