I got given virtually the full run up to when it went monthly by a mate who 'grew out of comics' (sucker!) I remember I'd spend whole weekends reading through the various backup strips.

08.10.2025 16:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's only rereading Star Wars Weekly as an adult you realise how weird it is - so many backup strips taken from Marvel older audience targeted B&W magazine line. Which actually made it a brilliant bleak read when I was a kid.

08.10.2025 14:12 β π 13 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0This series hit me out the blue back in the day. I'd never heard of Dan Slott - i think it was a Staff Recommendation in Nostalgia & Comics - but it hit me like a bomb, and made Slott a name to look out for.
Ryan Sook's art is fantastic too.
Seconded. Brilliant series.
08.10.2025 15:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I never liked Ditko's Spidey as a kid, having mostly seen Romita and Andru's Spidey - but I loved this annual. Those full-page splashes for each villain!

For my money Dart is still one of the best designed characters in sci-fi comics, right up there with Johnny Alpha.
zeldawilliams 20m From Create Mode β’β’ Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want. To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough, , just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross.
And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

Full page and for Pacific Comics - Elric, Alien Worlds, Vanguard, Bernie Wright son Master Of The Macabre, Captain Victory, and Somerset Holmes.
And some more...
Thor was one of my least favourite superheroes but one looks at this ad by Walt Simonson and I was All In. (was already a huge fan of Walt's thanks to his Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars comics)
Well that must've certainly been a night out.

Feature article on Doc Savage, "The Man Of Bronze Still Shines", by Will Murray. Featuring a painted portrait of Doc by Brian Hamilton.
Ad for D'Arc Tangent by Foglio and Freff ("a love story")
A few more, to me age 13, tantalising glimpses of comics well out of my reach.
Plus a great feature on Doc Savage - all I knew at that time was the Ron Ely movie
Comics Scene #11 - big photo of Christopher Reeve in Superman III. Plus: X-Men, Doc Savage, "Judge Dredd Invades America", "Whatever Happened To Romance Comics?", Cary Bates, Chris Claremont, Dick Ayers, Dick Giordano, and Martin Pasko.
Ad for Richard Corben's BROOD part 2: The Big Shriek.
Double ad for two Capital Comics - NEXUS #3 by Baron & Rude ("light years ahead"), and The Badger #1 by Baron & Butler ("get it or get hit!")
News feature on Cerebus The Aardvark (art here by Barry Windsor Smith) and Aztec Ace by Michael Hernandez.
Today's post - COMICS SCENE V1 #11 - I bought this off the shelf back in 1983. Just one of those random things that would appear in your local newsagent from time to time.
Absolutely loved. Reread it until it fell apart.
Opened my eyes to so many potential new comics
