oh i just use playlists but when i was on a tv i had a smart one that used plex. which sucked ass for several other reasons, but that used to be able to connect to a windows share and i just downloaded everything onto one of several hard drives on my desktop and access it over the local network

yeah, i mean, all you can do is break the cycle in whatever way you have the power to. it takes diligence sometimes!

there's also the fact that a bunch of nerds are NOT emotionally-broken enough to cause issues for a lot of other people: but the problem is they also don't tend to be super loud, and those rare ones who do tend to get audiences are often loathed for "not being real" from being emotionally successful

a failure to understand this further entrenches "us vs them" thinking which is the entire root of the problem and only serves to make it worse

this also applies very strongly to nerds (especially on the internet) who often display really horrible personalities, especially when you get them in a big group without a strong external authority to impose standards of behavior that originate from outside the cycle of broken mindsets

or else they get all their understanding of how other people work from analyzing fictional characters

real human beings very, very seldom have cartoonishly-simple motivations behind their actions like "now that i'm grown up, i get to do this and this and this to other people"

anyone who honestly thinks that has more than likely not spent enough time around a wide population of victims of abuse

it's more that a lot of people who are emotionally sensitive enough to get super into the performing arts are also sensitive enough to have been severely harmed by a lot of assholes while growing up; and they don't know how to not act like assholes, or attract people around them who aren't assholes

I wouldn't characterize it as a deliberate "now I get to do this to people" mindset. that's a mischaracterization and does far more harm than good while also not really getting to the root of the issue

because i am an adult with a job i forget what happened to hongfire. it was still around less than 10 years ago (i last used it in 2017) but now i can't remember why it's gone now

also you shouldn't be "streaming" things to begin with, as it's a waste of bandwidth. you're still downloading the thing anyway but then immediately throwing all the packets out. it's unbelievably wasteful. you might as well download it in a better quality that is yours to keep forever
