New #aBitOfCCS episode 🎙️
I talked with Miriam Milzner & @thieled.bsky.social about detecting coordinated disinformation in the age of AI.
They introduce coorsim, an open-source R package that finds semantically similar coordinated posts!

I’ll be teaching a course at MethodsNET this year!
This course covers basic methods of handling large volumes of text data. A mix of interactive lectures and guided coding sessions will enable you to implement your first text-as-data research design.

If anyone else would like to hear me nerd out about automated text analysis… good news 👀
Really enjoying my time in Amsterdam 🇳🇱 I was very lucky to present at both PCP@ascor.bsky.social and @societal-analytics.nl and get such thoughtful feedback on a current research project. Grateful for the sharp questions and great discussions!
Using quantitative text analysis + semantic networks, she traces how terms like “mother,” “homemaker,” and “worker” shifted across parties and speakers.
I learned so much in this conversation about working with historical text data.
Highly recommend giving it a listen 👇

New #aBitOfCCS episode 🎙️
I spoke with @keonhison.bsky.social about the structure of parliamentary discourse on women in the Weimar Republic!
Honestly, one of the coolest methodological set-ups I’ve seen in a while — such a thoughtful application of #CCS.

What, a content analysis dataset that you could, for example, combine with survey data and manifesto data? 😱
As part of AUTNES, we have data for the six weeks preceding Austria's last election in 2024, enabling research on topics such as media agendas, campaign dynamics, and opinion formation.
🤝 Reuse & authorship: The media data can be directly linked to AUTNES demand-side survey wave 22 — enabling combined analyses of media supply and voter demand.
🗒️ Variables included: headline, outlet, date, section, word count; party mentions (SPÖ, ÖVP, FPÖ, Greens, NEOS); lead candidates (Kickl, Nehammer, Babler, Kogler, Meinl-Reisinger); 20 issue categories (e.g., economy, asylum & immigration, health, corruption, inflation, climate); and sentiment.
🗂️ What’s inside: an automatic analysis of political news coverage in the six weeks leading up to the Austrian 2024 National Election — covering 6,354 articles / 50,042 paragraphs from 16 major media outlets.
📊New dataset release with @marvins.bsky.social, @jamoeberl.bsky.social & @hajoboo.bsky.social
AUTNES Automatic Content Analysis of the Media Coverage on the 2024 NRW is now publicly available for scientific use via @aussda.bsky.social

How are social bias and CSS interconnected? 🤔
@aytalina.bsky.social, @janabernhard.bsky.social, @valeriehase.bsky.social, and I argue that social bias shapes CSS as a field and as a methodology. Progress in CSS depends on engaging with both dimensions! osf.io/preprints/so...

@sebstier.bsky.social at #MEDem Conf: computational research of democracy stands in the shoulders of the few enthusiasts who create datasets, software and infrastructure for it. How can we move forward? Short answer: more collaboration & sharing!
Day 1 at #MEDem Conference @gesis.org in Cologne, where I had the chance to share a personal perspective on data infrastructure projects for democracy research. Slides here: simonmunzert.com/medem25/
They say: once there’s a paper 📝, it’s real…
🎉 #MEDem in #EPS @ecpr.bsky.social
The paper outlines how MEDem will strengthen #OpenScience by making data #FAIR in #DemocracyResearch – and how scholars across Europe are joining forces to build a truly open #ResearchInfrastructure ⚙️
🚀 Kicking off day 1 of the 3rd #MEDemConference at @gesis.org! From @sldelange.bsky.social discussing radical-right normalization 🗳️ to calls to consolidate democracy data by @simonsaysnothin.bsky.social 📊 — keynotes spotlight why #MEDem matters for democracy.
Somewhat ironically, we have come together to #MakeDemocracyResearchGreatAgain. Always a pleasure – and quite humbling – to see the #MEDemCommunity gather to discuss where @medem.bsky.social should be headed in the coming years. #ResearchInfrastructures ⚙️
I really enjoyed the inspiring keynote speeches by @sldelange.bsky.social and @simonsaysnothin.bsky.social at the 3rd #MEDemConference at @gesis.org in Cologne! ⭐
