She believed she could, but it was 91 degrees and humid outside, so she didn't.

Original 1925 jacket cover of The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby
Here is a novel, glamorous, ironical, compassionate a marvellous fusion into unity of the curious incongruities of the life of the period which reveals a hero like no other one who could live at no other time and in no other place. But he will live as a character, we surmise, as long as the memory of any reader lasts.
"There was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life. ..
It was an
extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again?"
It is the story of this Jay Gatsby who came so mysteriously to West Egg, of his sumptuous er-tertainments, and of his love for Daisy Buchanan a story that ranges from pure lyrical beauty to sheer brutal realism, and is infused with a sense of the strangeness of human circumstance in a heedless universe.
It is a magical, living book, blended of irony, romance, and mysticism.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

-FS Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, published 4/10/1925.

#AmbitionMonster by #JenniferRomolini came into my life at exactly the right time. Thanks to #TheDream podcast for introducing the book.

Remember when Cady Heron moved to town and the Plastics adopted her as their own? I’m totally getting that vibe from Mike Johnson tonight. #awkward #meanmen

You are correct, @jefftiedrich.bsky.social, that a bunch of coddled tech bros cannot get into government applications and identify fraud within days. My life's work is helping clients with aging computer systems and odds are quite high that they haven't figured out how to login yet. #ElonsBigLie

If you have a chance to talk about how they're breaching critical applications full of sensitive data, ask them what languages those applications are written in. Upgrading 30+ year-old applications is my life's work, and I believe they're lying about everything. They don't even know how to log in.

Thank you Senator @schatz.bsky.social for your leadership πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Glad to see @schumer.senate.gov calling for others to follow your example

It's about time we take a play out of Tubberville's book, turn it back on them, and hold shit up!

I promise you that this payments system is too complicated for a bunch of startup bros who've never seen a system older than a decade. Aside from their criminal intent, these dudes have no idea what they're touching and will almost surely take it down. #resist #donotcomply 2/2

@amyklobuchar.com @smith.senate.gov Please get these vultures out of the payments system. I've spent the last 30+ years supporting the computing systems that run banks, insurance companies, and a good chunk of the world's supply chain infrastructure. 1/2
