This is why it’s a problem to have right-wing governments at the local government level. If passed, this budget would not only devastate services, it would pass debt to future councils.

Interest and inflation don’t magically disappear.

I’ll remember the image of the fishermen. I’ll remember the joy in their faces. I’ll remember that we are in the right side of history.

As someone whose parents are from the north of Ireland, I’m deeply aware of the effects of colonialism: famine, checkpoints, collective punishment. So while some will criticize me for speaking here today, I will remember where I’m from.

Think about that for a second. Fishing, in their own waters. Something they aren’t allowed to do. And the joy on their faces.

I will remember that image. As a city of reconciliation, we should all remember that

You know, I saw a clip the other day that really encapsulates the courage of the Palestinian people:

While the Israeli navy was intercepting an aid floatilla, one of whom is a belived young climate activist, the people of Gaza managed to go fishing.

And I think it’s controversial for local elected across BC blocking an emergency resolution for Palestine.

But I’m grateful for delegates from New West, Nanaimo, Victoria, Port Moody, Burnaby, Courtenay, Parksville, Squamish, Saanich, Penticton, Powell River, North Van and even the village
