Unfortunately this performative compassion is spreading, and has presented as a gangrene on old social democratic parties. The sweeter they sound, the more secure is the status quo.

3. They proclaim themselves leftists, but without any solidarity with the working class. Words not deeds, kind thoughts, but no action. Rather Trump than Sanders, who would make real changes.

Three reasons to distrust liberals: 1. they present privileges as life style choices. 2. They claim adherence to Scandinavian social democracy, but are horrified when things cost more because of people earning a living wage and taxes paying for the system they admire.

How the Past Became a Weapon of Genocide in Palestine | Public Humanities | Cambridge Core How the Past Became a Weapon of Genocide in Palestine - Volume 1

I have a new article out today in Public Humanities, where I try to find some words for how historicide is (and has always been) a project of European colonialism - and I try to find some words for the historians who continue to support it. 🇵🇸✊🏻

Really thrilled that my second book is now published! It explores the life of Tacfarinas, a C1st AD auxiliary soldier-deserter-bandit-rebel who came to lead a revolt against #Rome in NW Africa during the early reign of Tiberius. He is a truly fascinating figure in #Roman history! 🏺AncientBlueSky

As Sanders put it: no wonder that the labour class left the Democrats, when the Democrats left the labour class long ago. Voting the republicans out will help matters, but I’m afraid the understanding of the need for substantial change which could win the labour class back, will evaporate then

You do not think this presupposes a solidarity, permanently broken as “communism”, and grassroots organisations broken in anti-unionism after Reagan? This rallying by leaders, i.a. the traction gained by Sanders and AOC: How far can it go? I fear the people can endure much more without rebelling

It’s possible to love and respect jews, be against #anti-semitism, AND condemn the #genocidal ethno-state of #Israel.

Why intelligent and otherwise compassionate humans, complain that #Palestinians expelled from their land, occupied and mistreated since 1948, doesn’t “behave”, is beyond me

An aerial view of the extensive ruins of a Roman town, showing a well-preserved grid layout with stone foundations, streets, and colonnades. Visible landmarks include a large amphitheater, a central forum surrounded by columns, and monumental arches, all set within a geometric network of buildings and thoroughfares.

#RomanSiteSaturday: The architectural perfection of Timgad, Algeria, is consistently striking in photographs.
The Colonia Marciana Traiana Thamugadi was founded in 100 AD. Its plan, laid out with great precision, is Roman urban planning at its best.

@tadstoermer.bsky.social is the American who doesn’t think a “strongly worded letter of resignation” counts as proper resistance. He gives me hope that there are people with a backbone in the US.

As Steelfest in Finland gets underway, which calls itself “a gathering of wolves,” now’s as good a time as any to mention that I wrote an article on the pervasive connections between lupine/lycanthropic themes and fascism/white supremacism in Metal, including in its reception of antiquity.
