Still enjoying #CritcalMass #Nairobi. Pollution is heavy but the ride is fun and super organized.

This is btw a great little essay about the historical power of „fake news“, which is often quoted in texts about how Bloch came up with his famous book on the healing touch of medieval and early modern kings, and I am definitely thinking of using in teaching about the problems with AI

"One of liberalism's poisonous legacies is the projection of the social as a space made from above, without its own power or consistency."

(Incidentally, I think this nails the difference between Giddens' notion of "civil society" and Gramsci's […]

Colleagues have invited me to a discussion of subalternity in a journal forum and goddamn they made me become a Gramscian again.

Mostly because I discovered there is some great new literature out there on his concept of subaltern groups, which it suddenly dawned on me is really useful for my […]

Tried today to make sense of #informality today and how and why I still want to use terms like #informaleconomy and #informaltransport. Problem is the distinction formal/informal is largely predicated on position a short and geographically limited form of capitalist regulation, #fordism, as norm […]

Reading #Baudrillard s Symbolic Exchange and Death and it‘s eerie how well this fits as an analysis of the current conjuncture. Baudrillard remains the most Marxist of the Postmodernists, and his Freudomarxism and parallelism of value theory and semiotics leading him to diagnose the degradation […]

Daniel Bellingradt (@dbellingradt@hcommons.social) If the publication is open access, you have to download it. Read it later, or never, forget about it maybe, but feel good about adding the file to your computer. This is a silent agreement of all academics. Downloading is already working. Well done. Click the button. #academicchatter

Didn‘t write a single word today but feel good because the citavi project is bursting of pdfs that I’ll never so much as look at again. All in a good day‘s work

Having watched both #Fanon biopics focusing on Blida now, Abdenour Zahzahs strikes me as a particularly focused reflection, instilling in the viewer more the situation in which Fanon found himself and inspired his particular anticolonialism. But if you don’t know too much about Fanon […]

excerpt from: Biagini, Cedric and Guillaume Carnino (ed.): Les Luddites en France, English translation:

„Since Marx at least, it has been customary to portray Luddites as the first technophobes. This psychologisation ("these people are prey to an irrational fear and should therefore be reassured"
- rhetoric combining progressivism and paternalism that would be taken up by all proponents of industrial progress 13) of a strong political act is a complete historical misinterpretation. In fact, the Luddite takes a resolutely technophile position, since he demands the destruction of machines in the name of his own know-how, that is, in the name of the technique of which he is the custodian.“

Just fyi, in term of #LuddismStudies the French are of course way ahead and already have a fantastic #Luddite book series aptly named „Frankenstein“:
