Weird New World is a big hex crawl that might work.

I ran a home-brewed megadungeon campaign about 10 years ago. I want to say it lasted for a few years. I never mapped past the first level, but the first level was *sprawling.*

I'm working on a new megadungeon now and I hope this will be my most successful campaign yet!

Something the Gray Goblin Warrens taught me is that just because I know a common feature of a common monster (trolls regenerate) doesn't mean that my players do. I thought they would just know to burn the troll; they didn't & ended up locking its head in a chest.

The Grey Goblin Warrens are sprawling and will almost certainly take multiple sessions. There's a dragon. And a troll. And traps and ambushes and more.

The Triune Labyrinth of Insane Mutations:

I really like how this dungeon plays with elevation. It took some extra effort to understand how to run it, and it makes it a bit more linear than I like, but I think it is very much worth it.

These two are just really solid, dense, Jaquaysed, dungeons that make excellent go-to modules.

campaignwiki.org/1pdc/2009/St...

I've run both of these and they are big enough to fill multiple sessions.

There are traps, puzzles, and even potential social encounters with the dragon and trolls.

16.01.2025 15:17 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

What I like about it:

1) It is Jaquaysed. Multiple entrances, multiple choices about where to go.

2) Lots of "classic" monsters. I think a lot of D&D players only know about some of the classics but haven't actually encountered them.

3) It isn't just monsters…

One Page Dungeon 2016: The Quintessential Dungeon Behold my entry into the 2016 one-page dungeon contest! This year, rather than agonise over originality, I wanted something that evoke...

Well, I need to get my posting count here up for the Compendium, so I'm going to talk about some old one-page dungeons I really enjoy.

First up, the Quintessential Dungeon: beholderpie.blogspot.com/2016/05/one-...

I haven't run this yet, but I plan to use if for the next game I run.

I love that LotFP encourages creating new monsters the players have never encountered before. The essay in the Random Esoteric Creature Generator is gold… and it's really labor-intensive to come up with new monsters and use them only once.

I do really like the generators in the RECG and Carcosa!

Wow. I've never heard of these. They look amazing! And… they are pricy nowadays. They sound like amazing inspiration for roleplaying adventures.

Somewhat more detailed view of #TheCompendium.
Artistically, it's very pleasing (these here are the inhabitants of the Grey Fortress).
The text is for the most part, but some pages that would've been hard to read were replaced with printed text.
Dozens of pages of useful random tables.

The second level of the Megalith, going up. What I like about this level is that half of it is only accessible from above. If the PCs find it, they can also find an elevator up to level 4.

I saw you were interested in multi-classing. I don't have much experience with multi-classing, but I'm curious: what are your favorite classes to combine in a multi-classed character?

Do you have any pointers for running point-crawls?

Any links to good resources?

Do you have a favorite point-crawl to run?

How is the DMG read-thru going?

I haven't made it all the way through myself. I think the favorite parts I've read so far are the follower lists for Rangers and the disease tables. I just was not expecting them!

Any fun surprises for you in the DMG?

Looks like you've got a LOT of RPG materials!

I'm curious about what your favorite might be?

And are there a handful of things you haven't played yet that you really want to?

Would you be willing to talk a bit about how you use Vornheim? What parts do you use the most? Do you have a favorite section?

I see you use Vornheim a lot. I own it but haven't really ever used it. Can you say some about how you use Vornheim?

Do you run the city of Vornheim itself or do you use it for running other cities?

This is the ground level of the Megalith of Zapeth-Noor.

Four entrances, each in the center of a side of the Megalith.

Stars and triangles are two separate teleportation networks with different rules.

The large chamber on the West is a library, staffed by robots.

I've been drawing the dungeon on an isometric dot grid. I don't know that it actually makes anything better, but it feels like it has stretched me to draw from this perspective, and possibly helped with creativity.

29.12.2024 20:53 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I've mostly just done mapping and thinking about this dungeon and there is far more to be done than has already been done before it's ready for even a preliminary run, but in my next few posts I'll do some show-and-tell.

Cattle are found dead and half-eaten. The villager fear that the children will be next.

Who dares enter the Megalith, and will it do any good?

This is the basic background for a megadungeon I've been slowly working on for the last year or so.

A massive megalith appears outside the small village of Zapeth-Noor. Every sunset the doors in its four walls open, every sunrise they close. Strange shapes float through the night sky…

It was an age of sorcery and super-science, an age of miracles and corruption, an age of marvels – both of advanced technology and utter depravity.

It was the age that brought the Cataclysm.

It was an age long thought hidden from all but the wisest sages…

Until the Megalith just appeared.
