But video games are an entirely different world from character goods/merchandise and crucially well designed characters don't really matter that much if the gameplay isn't good in a video game while character design is the heart or character

I have a feeling that there will be a Kickstarter for a mascot horror game that ends in disaster, I'll be genuinely surprised if Piñata Puppy World doesn't end up in flames considering that they scrapped most of the promised Kickstarter milestones in favor of "releasing the demo when it's ready".

To me, focusing on merchandise deals after a certain point ends up becoming a distraction and taking away time and effort that instead could be focused on polishing the game, especially considering many of these companies that make the games are very small so every single person is necessary.

People, especially those who watched those types of movies as kids, need to be reminded about how terrible Seltzer and Friedberg's "parody" movies were and why they eventually stopped making them.

Indigo Park, which is considered "better than the others", also has this problem! You don't need four different plushies of the same marketable character before chapter 2, you need a chapter one that actually has engaging gameplay!
