What the graduate unemployment story gets wrong People with a degree are faring better, not worse than their non-graduate counterparts

"if anything employment outcomes are worsening more rapidly for those with fewer skills looking for blue-collar jobs than the highly skilled seeking knowledge work"

If the government wants economic growth it must bring essential industries into public ownership Successive governments clobber households and small businesses by hiking interest rates to manage inflation, but donโ€™t inconvenience corporations.

Since privatisation England's water companies paid ยฃ88.4bn in dividends.

90% of water companies owned by foreign investors/govts.

90% of dividend not recirculated in the UK economy. No UK tax paid on dividends.

Public ownership would make a difference.

The image shows a graph showing how the percentage of schools visited by university scientists is lower the longer the drive is from the nearest university. Starting at 69% when it's up to a 15 minute drive, which goes down to 43% for a 15-30 minute drive, and coming down to 15% when it's over 60 minutes.
Under the graph it says: "Nearly 70% of schools within 15 minutes of a university had visits from university scientists." And "Schools more than 30 minutes away were visited less than half as often". At the bottom of the picture it says "Initial date suggests likelihood of a visit decreases by around 1% per minute's drive".

High water bills, filthy rivers โ€“ and now drought. This is England's great artificial water crisis of 2025 | George Monbiot In its refusal to nationalise water, itโ€™s clear the government operates in the interests of private capital and not of the country, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

How do you ensure a nation fails to cope with drought? Privatise its water system.

Almost everyone wants our water renationalised. Almost everyone, that is, except the government.

This week's column.

This, to be considered by the House of Commons this afternoon, needs to cause as much political trouble for the government as the welfare bill. Ask your MP to stand up for the right to protest.

YouTube video by Double Down News Sharing This Video Could Get You 14 Years in Prison

Today, the UK government intends to ban the non-violent protesters Palestine Action as a "terrorist" group, exposing anyone supporting them to terrorism charges. In 2 days, 380,000 people have watched this video on YT alone.

Comparing temperature anomalies in summer 1976 and summer 2024

As we seem to, yet again, be talking about the hot UK summer of 1976, a reminder that the UK is not the world.

Yes, it was hot that summer over our small region, but the bigger picture tells a different story.

And, we've had hotter UK summers since.

The government's Crime and Policing Bill is at Report Stage in the House of Commons. Yet scarcely anyone is alert to the implications of Sections 114 & 115, which (as everywhere's close to a place of worship), greatly increase police powers to shut down protest. Please tell MPs and friendly peers.
