In 1923, SCOTUS held that US taxpayers do not have standing to sue the government for their taxes being spent in an illegal or unconstitutional manner. SCOTUS said it would violate Separation of Powers if taxpayers could sue to control how taxes were spent.

That's been US law ever since.

This is also, incidentally, why you can't sue the government for your taxes being used to fund Israel's genocide in Occupied Palestine or the UAE's genocide in Sudan or any other atrocity we do. SCOTUS says being forced to pay for something illegal isn't a real injury entitling you to sue.

Supporters of this illegal war are saying Donald Trump is a hero because Khamenei killed protesters and oppressed women and queer people and irony is just dead at this point.

I am now literally being told by supporters of this illegal war that it's *not* an illegal war because no war was declared and Trump can legally bomb and invade whomever he wants as long as there's no declaration of war.

I'm just so tired.

It's not lost on me that of the over three hundred death threat and nasty messages I've gotten since yesterday about my opposition to this illegal war, nearly all of them either called me ugly, threatened to rape me, or openly misgendered me and called me a man in a dress.

And also it's not fair to expect the people who are victims of our imperialism to make that distinction. Because they only know that those are the people holding guns on them.

And that is why if you really support our troops, you oppose sending them to kill and die in imperialist wars.

And none of that would have mattered to any of the people I hurt when I was there.

There are a lot of marginalized people who end up in the US military. Many are kids and never had another real choice. The US imperialism machine does that on purpose.

If my mother had gotten her way, if I didn't have an incredibly lucky day on the SAT as a terrified 15 year old, I would have joined the military at 17 as my mother's final attempt to detrans me after "conversion therapy" failed. I would then almost certainly have ended up in Iraq.

I also would argue that the enlisted members of the US military are no more complicit in our imperialism than your average suburban white person, but I don't know if we're ready for that conversation tbh
