Somewhere along the way, that practice faded. Social media, fast-paced lives, and shifting family dynamics made it easier to disengage from elders instead of seeking their wisdom. We started relying on institutions to teach us about us. Big mistake.

But the most valuable history I learned wasn’t from a textbook—it came from my family. My grandparents, great-aunts, and great-grandmother told me our stories. They passed down where we came from, generation to generation. #BlackLegacy

I’m 53, and I remember Black History Month only focusing on sanitized figures like MLK, Rosa Parks, & Jackie Robinson. Malcolm X? Barely mentioned. The deeper, complex truths of our history? Often erased or watered down. #TellOurStories
