Well, it’s an unusual start to the week … a 1:00 AM (yes, really *AM*) appointment with the NCT (Ireland’s compulsory vehicle test) in a test centre approx 40km away!
To be fair to them, they are clearing a backlog, and it is largely my own fault for booking at the last minute, but even so… ☕️☕️☕️ 💨

Reminds me of ‘Silo’ - a post apocalyptic, authoritarian, underground dystopia where the population’s access to tech is deliberately restricted to something resembling the late-70s, with monochrome CRTs, clunky keyboards and command line interfaces etc

I think this might be a hint that I need a tech detox. My Apple Watch decided to self destruct! The screen just spontaneously popped off.

Still very much an era of protectionism at that stage, and not only in Ireland. Opening of trade with GATT etc was probably still quite a few years off when that coat hanger was made!

Just doing a big tidy up and found these …
Old pre-1950s coat hangers in labelled bilingually in Irish and English and made in Sweden.

Cork must be getting a waft of the continental heat bubble —seems to be a very sharp temp difference between the south coast and the midlands in Ireland today. My car thermometer was reading 27°C in Cork City — rather humid too, yet only 19°C by the time I got to Tipperary and feels quite fresh.

So basically: let a hallucination prone, LLM-based AI claim to rewrite human knowledge using a dataset riddled with massive gaps, throw in a hefty dose of very human ideological and political bias, then retrain it on its own mistakes. Sure, what could possibly go wrong?

Just sitting out at a lovely, chilled café having brunch, but for some reason, the most tinny, irritating outdoor speakers are blaring 1970s classics like Disco Inferno 🤷‍♂️ it really doesn’t add to the ambience lol

Wish more people posted rather than just benevolently lurking and liking. It puts a huge amount of pressure on far too few of us to be consistently publicly annoying

They’ve aspired towards EU membership at various points and have enhanced trade access through the customs union and some bilateral agreements—but with the political situation spiralling towards a dictatorship, talks of joining are very, VERY far away from reality.

Turkey isn’t in the EU. It has enhanced trade access through a customs union and has aspired towards EU membership at various points—but it’s not a member, and with the current political situation sliding towards dictatorship, that door’s looking pretty much shut.
