Walking in the shallows next to a thin strip of beach are two similar sized birds. In front is the marbled godwit with its Buffy tan coat and pink bill turning to black at the tip. Just behind and slightly in front is a gray willet with a shorter gray bill turning black at the tip. They are both examining the ground for signs of more food.

I have to add another #BirdoftheDay for #MixedPairs theme. This morning I saw a willet hanging out with 3 marbled godwits. I think I’ve seen the same foursome at my lagoon before. I gotta tell you—it’s a cute group. #Birds #Nature

From Sunday, a male Western bluebird cools off in the heat with its black beak open while perched atop a dead looking branch. The back, head and wings are a nice chalky dark blue with some rusty browns mixed in. The flanks are a light brown to orange color. The background is a blurry mix of greens and yellows.

Standing on one leg in the dirt, a brown and white bird contorts him/herself while preening. We see the bird’s butt closest to us. His/her head is almost tucked under the right wing but we can see the one side of the face. The red iris glows in the morning light.

On the left side of the frame is a large rough brown tree trunk. In front of this brown backdrop is a flycatcher perched on a thin, horizontal, white branch. She has a light gray chest with some blurry horizontal darker streaking. Her cap is mottled with dark gray, and her wings are also a mottled dark gray/brown. Around her lower abdomen and rump we see orange coloration peeking through. The right half of the frame is some blurry light blue and green bokeh--with some criss-crossing white branches hanging from above.
