Through my work, I often hear of Iranian foreign interference - unknown people in front of houses, calls from Iranian Govern officials, social media posts removed. Constant surveillance in Australia & of families in Iran. Australia - take this seriously

@Nicolette_boele made her maiden speech at Parliament House & she did not mince her words. Strong words re systemic failures & the importance of collaboration for a stronger Australia for the people not for parties. 👏🏽 👏🏻 👏🏾

Honoured to attend UWS Law School’s 30th anni & hear The Hon Virgina Bell AC speak. She spoke re 1930s Tuckiar High Court case. Where the laws are clear even prejudice cannot interfere. Tuckiar was acquitted of murdering a white police officer. The court consisted of 5 white privileged men
I’ll definitely be raising a glass tonight🥂to celebrate this moment.

Today marks 16 years since the "end" of the Sri Lankan Civil War.
The perpetrators have not been held to account.
I am speaking at Sydney Town Hall at noon today about the genocide and disappeared - an on going crime of global significance.

Gus is still being punished. Statelessness exists in Australia & it is time to solve it through the creation of a stateless person visa & pathway to permanence
I've known Gus for years - he & society deserve better - we cannot have a stateless underclass

Episode 2 has dropped today.
Statelessness is little known in Australia, but it is a problem here & around the world.
Listen to those who are recognised by no country
(And advocate for Australia to implement a statelessness visa)
The international community need to step up, not only for those in Afghanistan but also Afghans waiting in neighbouring countries for visas to safety

If FIFA continues this stance they are helping the Taliban suppress women. This team didn't survive being shot at, assaulted & climbing thru an open sewer to reach safety just for FIFA to deny them recognition. These women & their supporters will cont to fight.

Mo Munshi will die in Mongolia unless the governments of Australia and the UK step up and work with the Mongolians to bring him home.

Do you know what else is "hard to "justify"?
Detaining people for unknown periods of time, sending people to random Pacific islands for "processing" but not settlement & creating an industrial immigration prison complex for profit of private companies...
Proud to contribute to independent media.
In this article, I write about the Politics of Cruelty and the targeting of the most vulnerable for votes, not for any legitimate issue of national concern

I spoke to SBS News on the weekend about my recent trip to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention session in Geneva, and about the three Australians detained indefinitely overseas.
You can listen here: www.sbs.com.au/news/podcast...
A gay Afghan man with complex PTSD and a history of torture can be deported to an African country where he doesn’t speak the language and faces homophobic attitudes and social isolation. The only reason he is there is the $$$$$$ paid by the Australian taxpayer.
An Iranian scientist could be refused entry to deliver a keynote address at a global conference in Sydney because her government refuses to take asylum seekers (no relation to her) who are too fearful to return.
A person who has served their sentence in prison and been warehoused in detention for years can be traded to a country for $$ because they can’t be returned to their country of birth. Then that country could deport or detain them at will.
Mobile phones will be confiscated from people in detention to avoid trafficking drugs into detention. In the process, all means of private communication are stripped away.
A single parent can be jailed for refusing deportation, while their citizen child stays in the community. Where exactly?
What’s the reality of the 3 migration bills that passed in a sprint last night?
In short, to win an election, Labor has flipped its platform and taken a sledgehammer to the human rights of 80,000 people, the vast majority who’ve lived in Australia for 10+ years.

Don't miss out on this important development - thrilled that the Senate listened to those with lived experience & other experts on the need for Australia to step up to help Aussies wrongfully detained overseas. Happy to have made submissions & been involved
