Chemogenetic inhibition of ventral hippocampus CA1 (vCA1) to NAc shell projections. Left: Schematic diagram of inhibitory DREADDS (hM4Di-mCherry) or empty vector (GFP) transduction in vCA1 and cannula implantation in NAc shell via which CNO or saline was microinfused for pathway-specific inhibition. Right: Representative images of somatic transduction of hM4Di-mCherry or empty vector GFP in vCA1 (left) and axonal transport of the viral load in the NAc shell (right). Scale bar, 1 mm.
How do animals decide whether to approach or avoid objects or situations that have both +ve & -ve valence? This study shows that glutamatergic projections from vCA1 to NAc regulate these approach decisions in mice, especially re motivational conflict 🧪 @plosbiology.org plos.io/3WAWBej
