Having to deal with an alcoholic parent is something I truly wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Having to be a PARENT to my own mother isn’t fair. It’s like I don’t have a mother at all.

I agree, I feel like that money was used for other things and he is trying to cover his ass. OR the money is there and he's just lying, which would not surprise me either... Something strange is definitely going on though, that's for sure.
