Was Granny needed for Sylvester and Tweety to succeed? Not really: both the cat and canary had their own means for comedy and owners tended to come and go a lot in the early days. But Granny was a fun addition regardless and "Canary Row" does set her up well as part of the comedy duo.

Just realize that's the opening of "Catalina Caper"; it had an animated opening. (though I more remember it for "Creepy Girl" and drugged up Little Richard)

I know most tend to ignore early BW Freleng, but there's something charming about "The Miller's Daughter"; it's cute without being saccharine and a lot of fun. It even technically has an early attempt of a "domestic" situation with a cat that feels like Freleng's own future as background noise!

Having finally seen the original "Halloween", I find interesting the movies used in that movie for the "movie marathon" and how they contextualize Michael Myers: the original "The Thing from Another World" (the inhuman human of the Arness Thing) and "Forbidden Planet" (the "Id").

"The Big Snooze" is a weird finale for Clampett. I do like how incomplete it feels with cuts and ideas from older shorts (this being where the "log bit" from "All This and Rabbit Stew" is more known from due to the Censored 11 state of the original short) but it's better than "Bacall to Arms".

The final PPG classic episode begins with "Roughin' it Up", which is a Fuzzy episode...but a really bad annoying one where Fuzzy and his kin (remember them?) just annoy the girls while they're trying to go camping.

All while the kin really aren't the same as the ones from "Impeach Fuzz".

"Mizzen in Action" shouldn't work; pirates arrive from a past Townsville to find treasure, drink Chemical X and fight the PPG; but this is actually a cool concept and it somehow...weirdly works in it's own way. (even if the pirates lose their powers similar to the Gangreen Gang with the candy rush.

"Crazy Mixed-Up Puffs"...is weird. I thought it was going to be the girls mixed in powers and bodies and personalities but they...just...fuse together into a bizarre amalgam fusion. I have no clue what the heck is even going on...but hey, I do like how the Mayor saved them at the end so simply.

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…Β½ review of What's Up, Doc? (1972) Not much to say about this movie but it's a classic regardless. Essentially move "Bringing Up Baby" from the late 1930s to the 1970s, make the "not usually into screwball comedies" actress from Kather...

It's sad that as much I can't stand Ryan O'Neil in "Love Story", him doing essentially a fusion of Cary Grant in "Bringing Up Baby" and Henry Fonda in "The Lady Eve" is hilarious.

Took a Tubi ad advice and decided to watch a movie tonight.

It's "What's Up, Doc?", probably the best movie Streisand ever made (and forgot all the Mel Brooks alums like Kenneth Mars and Madeline Khan)

Random thought: I hate the "football gag" in Peanuts. But anyone who tries to "fix it" makes it as bad or worse (looking at you, Family Guy)

Besides, it's explained in the very first strip it happened: Charlie Brown literally hurt Lucy's hand when she held it honestly!

"Little Orphan Airedale"...is essentially a remake of "Porky's Pooch", only with Jones thinking he can take Clampett's goofy short and make a character out of it. Charlie Dog isn't one of my favorites but I'm fine with him in this pilot compared to the annoyance of Jones later shorts with him.

"The Hep Cat" is probably one of the most important Clampett shorts; it isn't his greatest or most influential, but with this the first color Looney Tune where he's been stuck for years, this is where his genius and the wacky animator he was building towards truly unleashes into his prime period.

It's amazing how no one other than Jones and his unit wanted to use Pepe Le Pew...but then Arthur Davis decides to "technically" use him (some say it isn't but it's his design so it is him) with "Odor of the Day", creating such a different Pepe short that it may actually be one of his best!

Been home for a holiday and watching a few movies, thus all the posts. This one...was surprisingly worth it despite John Carpenter hating what was done to the script. (but hey, I like Tommy Lee Jones and Raul Julia so...)

Admission: "West in Pieces" has some of the funniest lines and gags in this era as if they really were trying with this Old West/Steampunk homage. However, why did we need a "fairy tale"/"imaginary tale" of the "Steamypuff Gals" to begin with? And aren't Mojo and their origins still linked or not?

Random thought: if they were going to have a banana peel joke beat Lou Goobrius, why not have Mojo administer it instead of Bubbles?

"City of Frownsville" = a way worse, more annoying "Mime for a Change"; but instead of everyone becoming black-and-white and depressed by a mime, they become annoying weepers by the most annoying scientist ever.

And how can Bubbles win a happy award six years in a row while still being a toddler?

I think the worst really just insult everything...

"Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" comes to mind.

I get you there with how random it is. But when I was watching the entire canon last year, this was probably the short where I began to realize how overpowered and annoying Jones was making his version of Bugs. And it just got worse through the remainder of Jones' Bugs shorts to the end.
