24.02.2026 08:30 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0In order to get thru Flamelurker I decided to get loot from 5-1 and good lord, the claustrophobia and unsupported bridges and verticality was an ordeal but interesting to navigate, feels good to have the Plague Rat Nest behind me...but I'm sure there's more later,,
23.02.2026 23:17 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0the reason I bounced off Nioh 1 and Code Vein 1's demo is cuz I get 0 sense that from those games. Exploring those levels feels like a formality to get you to more combat rather than something exciting. Lies of P had the level design sauce too, which is why I was able to stick to that
23.02.2026 22:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I will say despite frustrations and going a little ??? at things, it's still exciting to move forward and explore. I don't have the level design brain/chops to explain it, but the environments are varied and memorable and I want to poke at every nook and cranny

23.02.2026 22:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0and like, dude, making one of the paths as The Weapon Upgrade Material path really really screws over people who decide to tackle things nonsequentially
Idk who Anyone figured this shit out back when there wasn't a whole legacy of games to inform decision making for a blind playthrough
While the correct thing is to leave a bundle of souls in a boss room as lost and explore elsewhere to power up, our monkey brains Hate This. Mine does. A corpse run rly does do a lot for tension and stakes but man does it encourage unfun play when things go south
23.02.2026 15:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0and while softly encouraging going broad with exploration by making a build feel incomplete if you don't, I think the corpse run mechanic tugs in the other direction, making people feel invested in a path if they die, esp. to a boss.
23.02.2026 15:55 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Which is an interesting way to offer item progression (which, depending on build, is more important than simply leveling up) not done in other fromsoft souls game, but man I had no idea and made things awful for myself
23.02.2026 15:55 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0I still went thru world 2 and banged my head against flamelurker until I started looking stuff up. now I'm seeing progression is like, the first boss of every zone, and repeat for the next set of bosses, I guess? And each zone offers very different loot and such
23.02.2026 15:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I kinda assumed Demon Souls progression would be like Dark Souls 2 where you go down a path from the hub until you get to the end and then go to the next one. getting locked out of path/world 1 after tower knight pretty clearly says "nuh uh uh" to that but
23.02.2026 15:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I registered for Stoat since it seems some people are going there but ngl having a Third platform for DMs, man, idk, don't think my brain can handle that
23.02.2026 03:54 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0by Dark Souls 3 tho it feels like the game has learned to throw cooler stuff at you sooner, so it's easier to get stuck in.
23.02.2026 01:50 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0the thing that kinda sucks about earlygame of a souls game is you're probably unlikely to find a weapon you want to "stick to" by the time you Should be having a weapon that's beefed up with what you got. Exploring blindly usually isn't enough
23.02.2026 01:50 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Anyway, hate that bastard, Flamelurker, I almost had it, it had me grinding for herbs multiple times, ended up having to look up how to get a faith scaling weapon so I could make it doable
23.02.2026 01:43 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0its level structure makes for some real ass boss runbacks, and the starting class I picked had me fat rolling until I pumped so many points into stamina??
And I mean you can block and attack everything more or less like in DS1 so I guess it's not such a big deal but man
been playing Demon Souls. on a readable format based off the PS3 version. on one hand, kinda fascinating that it plays decently like Dark Souls 1, and all it's small, weird differences. on the other hand, it's even more miserable than Bloodborne for healing item economy if you get stuck on a boss,

21.02.2026 10:46 โ ๐ 295 ๐ 85 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I initially watched my boyf play this one, half paying attention to the gameplay and paying attention for the story. My impressions of it then were: excellent visuals and audio, the gameplay looks great, hitting the sweet spot of execution and puzzle challenge, and really novel moveset quirks that make the game really stand out. Playing it for myself...yup! Confirmed all true. Even having seen the majority of the game, still really fun to pick up and move around in and explore. The game is just plain Good Fun. And not in the smooth brain "this controls well and drip feeds rewards" way like a AAA open world game or anything, it's a Video Game Game where you use your wits and find shit and do cool stuff, more of a fun playground video game. And of course, visuals are top notch GBA styled, it looks as good as the best ones, and sounds like the best ones too. If you remember those Gen 3 horns from Pokemon, you'll hear them here too. Pick this game up if any of that sounds great to you, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys video games!!

I watched boyf play this first, and it looked so full of Sauce and Substance that I wanted to try it too, and it was Very Worth It even if I'd already seen everything
I liked this more in memory than on this rewatch, to be honest. It's definitely an alternate take on the story of the original that's not necessarily bad, but the overall package and message isn't as effective. The story concerns itself way more with the Plants and interrogating if humans are worthwhile and building out the villain's reasons and in the process gives Vash a lot less to like, be Vash and show us why humanity's worth fighting for when he gives them a chance. It's not totally missing of course, but when you've only got a cour to work with, and you gotta give Knives screentime and let him aura farm, Vash ends up spending way more time being a tragic sadboy than the idiot who yells Peace and Love while flashing the victory sign, and I like the idiot more. BUT again...I don't hate the sadboy Vash who, to his core, still believes in humanity to the utmost, and that shows me that at least they still kinda get it. Wolfwood still gets to act as the pragmatist foil to him, who eventually gets won over (even if he won't admit it) by Vash's way of doing things. And I kinda like how Meryl and old man Roberto bicker and chime in, even if it felt like they were being shoehorned into scenes with the villains more by the writers forcing it to happen than pure coincidence or a knack for getting in trouble (which Meryl has, but Roberto doesn't). Still...without having really liked the original, the substance that's here would be much thinner without knowing the original. This is absolutely not a substitute or "modern update" for the original.
If it weren't for the novel quality of Studio Orange's 3D animation, my slight dissatisfaction with the writing compared to the original would probably engulf the visual spectacle, and result in overall more negative feelings about the project as a whole. But as things stand...could be much worse reasons to revisit Trigun.
