47 U.S. Code § 230 - Protection for private blocking and screening of offensive material

Well that’s the weird part, from what I’m reading there isn’t really an enforcement mechanism for not moderating. Just that protections are granted for doing so.

I GET THIS IS AN UNPOPULAR OPINION.

So if providers are not properly moderating, the section 230 protections shouldn’t be extended to providers IMO. Hence the discussion regarding striking it.

The moderation can extend to pornography, extremism, defamation, misinformation, etc. basically police your website and you’re protected from a lawsuit saying you’re censoring people.

I think you only need look at algorithmic timelines of Twitter, Facebook, TikTok etc to see that’s not happening.

Hi - former web dev here. While I agree in principle, the fact is that 230 hasn’t been properly enforced for over a decade at the very least.

While it does prevent users and platforms for being sued for content, the agreement is that platforms are supposed to make good faith efforts to moderate.

With great certainty I can say I hate the safari update.

I do not know how I feel about this new iPhone OS. Icons feel reminiscent of the original iOS. SEEMS to run faster?? Am I crazy?

All that is to say I do get where you’re coming from.

Please understand that I’m coming from a place of having built the safe places for kids and still had to comb through logs of people grooming users. I’ve had a very specific career that’s shaped a really… let’s say low-tolerance outlook.

EVERY social media CEO KNOWS this is the case. They do nothing about it.

literally every network you engage with is a psychological trap, meticulously A/B tested for maximum effectiveness. Kids should not be swallowed by these traps.

I'll be the main character -
As someone who actually made content for kids online, kids should be kept the fuck off of social media, and probably off the internet in general. I don't know if KOSA is the answer, but I'd argue that continuing to do what we're doing is worse.
