the MOMENT you hit Heavensward its night and day. from there on the game had me hooked. story had me invested constantly, wondering where things would go next. by the time I was in the middle of Shadowbringers I felt like I was being reminded why I fell in love with the series all over again

honestly, it's ARR that feels like the biggest hangup to me. so many people I know (myself included at one point) just could not get into the game because it didn't do much to grab them even after 30+ hours. which was especially frustrating considering the other FFs' knack for strong introductions

Then again ngl there's a number of moments where 14 feels like if KH had better writing in general. KH *talks* up the necessary balance between light and dark all the time and then Shadowbringers *shows* you how terribly fucked things are when the balance is skewed

Random hot take for the week: the Ascians in FFXIV are like if Organization XIII were afforded good writing after KH2

Shadow and Rouge from the sonic the hedgehog series, standing towards one another, both weilding guns pointed at the camera. Shadow is holding regular pistols, and Rouge is holding Bayonetta's "Love is Blue" pistols from Bayonetta 2. They are both heavily shaded and the angle is shot above them to see bullet casings on the floor around them.

Grandia is a solid pick length-wise, I want to say most RPGs from around that era (even on through the PS2 era) are in its range or shorter

I feel like the super long ones are more of an exception than a norm

there's tons of classic JRPGs in the same length ballpark as the Mario & Luigi games

the sound design in older games is part of why they occupy such a big space in my head. all the detailed SFX of new games are very impressive but nothing hits like a good Kremling "UNGH" or the "bwouuub" of the Sonic 3 bubble shield

What made me a dpad truther were the Sega Genesis/Saturn, there hasn't been a dpad as good as that one neither before nor since

Used to be joystick only for me but now I've really come to choose depending on what the game was designed for

Any old 2D platformer or RPG I'll be damned if I touch that joystick

Likewise if it was made for 3D, I'm using the stick at all times

Iirc it was nerfed in that game and the confusion aspect was removed (the character can be controlled but beneficial magic has the opposite effect)

But it's still evil as hell

The boss will specifically target party members with regen and heals after turning them into zombies btw

You should see the boss in 10 that specifically has a move that instantly kills anyone who ISN'T under this status effect

I try not to let it get to me but posting anything that isn't a remix or a shitpost has been an insane uphill battle for me for years and frankly I'm tired of feeling underappreciated

Past time to put more stock into posting my work places that encourage more than a quick thumbs up and a scroll

I'm gonna try a few more music uploads here and if that doesn't go well I honestly think I'm just going to scale back on posting music to social media sites like this and just put more stock into youtube/soundcloud
