I Caught POLITICO and the New York Times Laundering Pink Slime "News" How the sexist backlash to AOC and Gretchen Whitmer at the Munich Security Conference led me to a scammy "local news" outlet pushing a coordinated right-wing narrative

Interesting post about the coordinated anti-AOC smear campaign. It's 2016 again! Fake local news outlets on Facebook getting picked up until eventually it winds up in the Washington Post.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Love Poems for Our Friends

Where are the poems for those who know us?

Not for star-crossed loves,
for agonies of desire,
but words for those who go with us
the whole road.

How would they start, I wonder?
You let me crash
when I was new to ruin.
You came to me
though visiting hours were over.
You held me when my loves
were done, were flames.

Yes, we will lose a few
in the changes.
But these are the ones
who save us:
not the charmers,
not the comets of wild passion,
not the ups-and-downs of love's
unlucky hungers,

but the ones who stand
by our shoulder at the funeral
and lead us back to the city of the living
and put our favorite record on the player
and go away, and come back,
always come back,

with bread and wine
and one word, one word: stay.

                                                        —Joseph Fasano

A day that celebrates Love doesn't have to be about Eros. Here's something for those other great loves in our lives.

Oh, they made the actual Muppet Show. It's the Muppet Show. Like, for real.

I might've gotten somewhat emotional during the theme song.

Heads are going to explode 💥

Cato Institute just nuked the lie. Immigrants have cut U.S. deficits by $14.5 TRILLION since 1994, slashing the national debt by a third.

All that “immigrants are bleeding us dry” noise? Absolute bullshit.

Trump blames Canada And tears our closest international relationship apart.

“Canada is pulling away, and our European allies may too. The tricky part is figuring out what comes next. Whatever it is, it almost certainly won’t be better for America than the relationships we had until a year ago. But it might be better for everyone else”

Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions.

There Is No Mary Problem in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ George’s vision of his wife without him is essential to the film, but critics continue to miss its true—and profound—meaning.

This is an almost shockingly wise essay. I'm glad I've finally read it.

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Bob Ross paintings to be auctioned to support public TV stations after federal funding cuts All profits will help public TV stations with licensing fees for popular programs that include "The Best of Joy of Painting" and "America's Test Kitchen."

If you, like me, are the parent of a neuro-atypical child dreading this autism press conference, please remember: These are the people hurting our kids. Not us. They are the ones stigmatizing and pathologizing them. They are the ones peddling untested science. And we should be very, very angry.

This Is The Best Way To Boycott Disney Many people on the left are talking about a boycott of Disney after they took Jimmy Kimmel off the air, but there is a better way than a boycott to really hit Disney where it will hurt.

Since people would have to boycott Marvel, Star Wars, the Muppets, ABC, Hulu, and Pixar, just to name a few entertainment brands, Disney doesn’t worry much about overall boycotts. HOWEVER... open.substack.com/pub/politicu...

Trump-Enabling Republican Congress: The Science of Morality and Why It Doesn’t Work Like We Think What Robert Sapolsky, neuroscience, and social psychology reveal about how Trump’s GOP hijacks the wiring of morality...and why the fight for democracy won’t be won by “calling out hypocrisy.”

Morality is messy biology, not clean principles. That’s why hypocrisy bounces off. Hypocrisy doesn’t sink politicians...it fuels loyalty. Science explains why.👇

I genuinely think one thing that trips up folks on the left is that they can't imagine not sharing certain core values. Lemme explain. Here's an intuition pump:

Say you're in negotiations with counterparty X. And there are two possible deals on the table ...

Living Waters Robert Macfarlane’s meditation on the life and times of great waterways poses many perplexing questions but answers few.

"The Gibraltar of the Confederacy has not looked out over the reason for its strategic importance in almost one hundred and fifty years." Because the river moved. Did it...choose to?

You're witnessing the self-destructive cocktail of white supremacy and greed: the twin sins of America that this country was unable to confront and uproot.

And, sadly, it's destroying us from within.

The United States has proven itself an incomprehensible and unreliable ally We've done quite well maintaining a wary, non-trusting trade relationship with China. We need the same with the United States.
