Here’s my question for the economists & reporters:

There are a number of private sector measures of the economy (Challenger, ISM, consumer sentiment, etc).

How good a picture of the economy can we get from those, if federal data are corrupted?

A truly baffling decision by a Biden-appointed Fed governor to step down several months early, handing Trump another seat on the Fed at a time he's attacking its independence.

And announcing it today of all days, after he's removed the BLS commissioner. SMH.

Again, the way the markets have reacted to all of this totally baffles me. Stocks were down, but modestly.

In the spring, it looked like the markets might save democracy. Now, not so much.

The markets have totally blown off the danger posed by Trump’s attempt to fire Powell.

She was recently postpartum, breastfeeding & put in an all-male facility. She was detained for 2.5 months.

The “deal” that Brown made with the Trump admin is much more extreme than is being reported. It includes government oversight of course evaluations and no barrier to government interference in faculty hiring.

It looks like Harvard is not up to the task of leading the defense of academic freedom and democracy in the United States. It was a big ask, to be sure, and sadly, it appears Harvard is not big enough. History will not look kindly on us.
