Ginny Di is dressed as a redheaded warlock. Small horns sprout from her forehead and there are arcane markings on her cheeks. With blackened fingertips, she holds a burned white cloak over her head. Text on the image reads "Reminder that you can simply decide that the mysterious cloaked stranger is hot. No one can stop you. This is your table."

In fact, every NPC can be hot. Try and stop me. I'll see you in court.

This is precisely why it took me so long to get back into the game industry.

Back in 2008, I was harassed in all of my tech and game courses. The culture soured my experience and I went into teaching instead.

Although I do have a sort of "dream game", I don't aim for it. It's my jrpg and honestly I just work on it as a break from other things. It's been in my head for over a decade, but I won't force it, and if it never gets made, that's fine by me.

Generative AI has really revealed that people just do NOT see coding as a creative process.

So many people out there say they don't want to use the slop machine for art or music, but are more than happy to use it for code.

There is very little respect out there for technical creativity.

The issue with AI users in indie game dev is that they are making a game, but they don't want to be creative.

You can always creatively get around limitations. Hell sometimes we put extra limitations on ourselves to inspire creativity.

If you don't want to be creative, why are you making a game?

Hade heritage kettle is what I use both at work and home. Not cheap, but 3 years in the retail break room is definitely durable

I have a total of 3 cards I'd get graded. My 2 mtg cards I play as commanders (so never in a deck) and my gold pikachu (designed as a collectable item for a game I don't play)
I also only buy a few (3-5) packs per set of Pokemon out of nostalgia

It having been the only Bethesda RPG I've beaten, I can see it getting hated at launch. That said, I loved it and would recommend playing it, but with the understanding of what bugs you might experience!

Obsidian did an incredible job, but it's still Bethesda's easily broken engine

FYI, on the Minneapolis shooting video: Bluesky hasn't taken it down. It's been labeled as "graphic media" so that people can avoid it if they choose.

You can change your personal settings on whether you see media labeled as graphic (or whether it appears with a warning) here: bsky.app/moderation

Just woke up even angrier. Impeach, convict, remove. Draft articles now. Either we have a representative government or we don’t. Do not shut up about this until there’s a vote.

AAA vs indie games is like coffee shops.

I've never met anyone who actually likes Dunkin, but yet people will consistently buy the mediocre but known quality over trying something new.

Look for something great? No it might be bad, so I'll just take consistently mediocre instead.

My partner just taught me about an example of why you shouldn't use AI for translation.

Shrek is hugely popular in Poland. This is partially because the localization is incredible. They localized jokes, references, political references, everything.

It is a lot more than just translating the words.

I've explained the concept of "virtual scrolling" in UI several times recently, so I decided to put together a small graphic. If you have a scrolling list of items that are all the same height, you can use a simple calculation to only process the ones currently on screen.

Hello [Author Name],

I recently came across [book title] and, to be honest… it didn't feel like "just another book". It felt like a rare work that makes you stop and think, "Wow, this is something special."

I've noticed that [Book Title] has received [X reviews/sales figures] since its release. That's a good start, but I know our readers would really love your story. With its [insert: originality, emotional depth, suspense, humor, etc.], it's exactly the kind of book that sparks conversation and captivates readers.

If that sounds interesting to you, you don't need to write a long reply; a simple "Interested" is enough, and we can get started. No pressure, no hassle, just readers who are excited to discover and celebrate your work.

Warm regards,
Maria P. Stephen

Geez, the book spammers aren't even trying anymore.

Being a class member against Anthropic is nice and all I guess but I don’t want settlement money, I want the book I carved out of my trauma as a warning against unregulated tech to be taken out of the machine that pollutes small towns to encourage people to kill themselves

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

A selection of 6 generic character sprites

I figure it might be a good idea to share some of the games progress. These are some of the character sprites I've drawn for the early stages of my game
