I'm in El Salvador this week doing an MTSS and Inclusion audit. A highlight was reconnecting with Rebecca, my student from almost 15 years ago. She was in the very first cohort of the Inclusive Leadership Program. It's so wonderful to connect back to those who were there when it all began. 🥰

It’s Time to Rip Off the Velcro! Rethinking Paraprofessional Support When a paraprofessional shadows one student all day, good intentions can backfire. A fluid support model delivers better outcomes.

What a phenomenal week it's been at Seoul Foreign School! We've worked hard on the logistics of #MTSS and interdisciplinary #UDL, and protocols for intervention plans. What stands out to me most is the warmth and kindness I feel from the faculty here. It's always a joy to be in this space. #EduSky

Educational leadership magazine opened to the article described. Title reads. It's time to rip off the Velcro! Rethinking paraprofessional support. Image of two pieces of blue Velcro cut out in the shape of humans.

In the upcoming issue of Educational Leadership Magazine, I wrote an article on paraprofessionals/shadow teachers/1-1 assistants. It's time to rip off the Velcro! #LeadInclusion #EdChat #Teaching #SpecialEducation #GlobalEducation #SEN @ELmagazine @ASCD

A wide view of a tan stucco building with red tile roof and arched entry, framed by a large sycamore tree with fall leaves. The overcast sky adds to the calm, academic atmosphere.
A landscaped campus lawn with stone pathways and white seating areas. A modern building with a sloped roof anchors the right side, with mountains and dramatic skies in the distance.
A spacious dining hall with wood-beamed ceilings, elegant chandeliers, and large windows framing a scenic mountain view. Wooden tables and black chairs are arranged throughout the room.
A shady outdoor area with white Adirondack chairs arranged in a circle among large rocks under lush green trees. In the background are additional buildings and a quiet path.

The Thacher School spent their first day back from break deepening their #UDL practice. What an incredible setting in Ojai, California. #LeadInclusion

MTSS pyramid diagram. Text reads: 'MTSS is about prevention more than intervention.'

#MTSS isn’t only about intervention. It’s first and foremost a schoolwide system for PREVENTION. This requires UDL, core review teams, screeners three times a year, and differentiated support in every classroom. #LeadInclusion #UDL #EduSky #TeacherTwitter #EdChat

A reshare from Sabrina Guerra (Neuroclastic 2022)

When the rights of abled people take precedence over those of disabled people, our great shame is evident, and we must not consider ourselves a modern, progressive society.

Green fabric background with text: 'HOW you show learning isn’t the same as WHAT you learned.'

How students *show* learning isn’t the same as *what* they learned. UDL removes the barriers to showing their learning. #LeadInclusion #Assessment #UDL #EduSky #EdChat

Children writing at desks. Text reads: 'A formal assessment is sometimes the least valid way to assess.'

A formal test or paper doesn’t mean a more valid assessment. It's often the opposite! We need to give students options to show what they know in authentic and informal ways if we want valid assessment of learning. #LeadInclusion #Assessment #EduSky #UDL #EdChat

But of course. Perhaps we can grow an empathetic generation that will fight for these. Empathy is the root of that fight.

Teacher pointing at a screen, smiling with a student. Text reads: 'Feedback is the priority, not a grade.'

Feedback drives learning. Grades are just data reduced to symbols. And those symbols can disengage, disempower, and discourage learning. We need to be grading less--a whole lot less. #LeadInclusion #FeedbackFirst #Assessment #EduSky #UDL #TeacherTwitter

Wooden blocks forming steps with arrows and labels: Acquisition, Fluency, Maintenance, Transfer. Text reads: 'Steps to Mastery.'

Mastery isn’t one leap—it’s a staircase. Explicit instruction means bringing students through the stages of mastery on foundational skills: Acquisition → Fluency → Maintenance → Transfer. #LeadInclusion #UDL #MTSS #EduSky #EdChat
