My nemesis, if you know you know, is a CLOWN. She pushed that sold a story BS as loud as she could and now is walking it back like she wasn’t one of the loudest voices. Folks were sold something for sure. Anyway BOOO! To KV simply the WORST.

A person finds comfort in what’s safe,

the known path, the worn trail.

But what is a life lived only in harbour?

A story unwritten? A sail never raised?

Is it even worth being called a life if you have not lived?

Legacy isn't built in the calm lagoon

but forged in the storm

I forget about this space. It is soft and welcoming and maybe that is why.

Dear Teachers This month has been a lot. Teachers have been on strike now for three full weeks. We have lost time with our students so we will have to work doubly hard to make up. We have learned that the government never had any intention of negotiating a fair deal, and we have lost thousands of dollars in salary and pension. I have said time and again this isn’t about money; it’s about classroom conditions.I’m holding true to that because if it were about money, I would have voted yes to return weeks ago.

Diving back in I have been sitting here this week reflecting a lot on teaching. There is uncertainty at the moment about what this year will look like. Alberta teachers are in the midst of a contract dispute, and the chances of job action are increasing every day. The government does not seem keen on negotiating, and teachers have authorized their professional organization leadership to strike if necessary. I think about the last few years and the time I am required to put in outside of my contracted hours, a

It’s that time a year when teachers share bad hot takes and demand others not shame them because… solidarity. So just to clarify I don’t walk in solidarity with bad teachers and I will call it out. I hope others will do the same. This is about becoming better not supporting garbage practice.

I don’t think I am an influencer but my caution is always to look for what folks are selling. If they are making money off teachers but not working with them… pass.

Hmm it would be cool if you could get some influencer types to share.

I think I would alternate 10minutes spelling/morphology work and Grammar stuff every other day and then the 20 minutes would be studying and practicing writing with mentor texts.

I am getting back to dreaming of better in education and organizing some kind of conference that focuses on joyful and effective literacy practices. All grades, in-person, ed camp style, but a little more structured... I don't know. #LiftingLiteracy

To my mentor and friend Years ago, I was told about a PD that was happening around a book called Notice and Note; the authors, Bob Probst and Kylene Beers, were in the area, and it came recommended. I had not heard of them or their work before this, but I figured I should give it a shot. I know it is probably cliché to say. Still, that session and the friendship that I later developed with them both have changed me as an educator, and their impact on my classroom will very likely continue in some form or another until

I also still want to support my local shop where I can. But if comics go up that will end too.
