While reviewing a new book by Jean-Baptiste Fressoz*, he argues that new energy sources do not displace old ones - quite the contrary, they build on them and even increase demand for them. He highlights two key points: 1) simple narratives of history based on stages are flawed.

An excellent contribution to debates on ecological transformations and the need to align them with social justice goals.
Looking forward to reading this book by Kevin Morgan, who has been working on this topic for over a decade. It shows how public institutions can procure their food in a way that promotes public health, social justice, and ecological integrity!

Not sure if this is relevant, but Salazar in Portugal was against structural economic transformation, until he was forced to open the country ro FDI to fund a war. It was more about blocking competition, but technology underlies that.
