We went from making up reasons like "weapons of mass destruction" to you know what, fuck it we don't need to even lie, the president "had a feeling" that they pose a threat so we just bomb them so we can. A country doing this can't expect peace inside.

NOEM: Our federal detention centers are held to the highest standards in comparison to other detaining facilities

McBATH: Did you just hear me? He has to crawl through mold and feces and bodily fluids just to take a shower. This is absolute lunacy and you know it.

And the cuts were specifically targeted at projects that would've helped marginalized communities, like anything with "environmental justice" had funding yanked.

Spouse works for the Parks Dept, the projects they could carry out with additional funding would make such huge impacts on those communities & Trump admin cuts mean that a lot of planned stuff got shelved.

What a pedagogical experience: a rotating cast of characters β€”Β all men! including plenty or heterodoxers and R-wing think-tankers! β€” sharing lectures "on a range of topics β€” from 'Why Capitalism Rocks!' to 'The Judiciary: The Least Dangerous Branch?'"

One aspect (among many) of this war that concerns me is the Islamophobic racism of the war’s supporters in congress and the media is somehow more callous and virulent despite low public support for the war.

good thread. I'll add that personally, I randomly landed an academic job at the edges of what I knew (am a historian, got hired in an interdisciplinary undergraduate dept) and the lit review skills were crucial for just being able to do the job well, also make the job a little more rewarding.

β€˜We’re in it’: Democrats won’t rule out giving Trump more money for Middle East war Democrats will have to balance a desire to criticize Trump’s offensive in Iran with pressure to support funding to defend the nation now at war.

We already went through this shit in Iraq. You don’t fund the GOPs dumb as fuck wars. Period. This isn’t hard. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...

Ted Lieu to Kristi Noem: β€œI just showed you a video with ICE officers at a school drop-off location β€” your refusal to commit to stopping these operations at or near schools & drop-off locations is why you're failing β€” so I'm going to show you this video that encapsulates why you're failing”

A war that isn't a war, documented with videos that may or may not be real, funded by elected leaders who are neither for nor against it, is the most dystopian thing that's happened in my lifetime

Solidarity to the NYU faculty members as they prepare to strike.

University leadership must offer a deal that meets the moment: Stronger job security, higher wages, and academic freedom protections.

NYU, it’s time to give CFU-UAW a fair contract and also pay your RAs!

A thread 🧡 where I will use maps to try and explain the War on Iran. Hopefully this helps.

Our first map is a true size map from truesizeof.com

It shows the United States compared to the region. Notice how #Iran is much larger than #Iraq and #Afghanistan and its central location.

Not gonna share the video of Republican US Senator Tim Sheehy breaking a protesting Marine's hand, but you can find it on @charlotteclymer.bsky.social's timeline.

I'll just say that in a functional country, Sheehy would be expelled by the Senate.

Democratic Senators should publicly push for that.

Saw a thoughtful thread about AI, don't want to QT or argue. But. The biggest rage factor with LLMs is the people who, because genAI is transformative for coding, think it's transformative for everything else, because they devalue every other form of work and labor and knowledge.

No hugging: are we living through a crisis of touch? Strokes and hugs are being edged out of our lives, with doctors, teachers and colleagues increasingly hesitant about social touching. Is this hypervigilance of boundaries beginning to harm our mental ...

And Paula Cocozza's pre-pandemic reporting on the crisis of touch points to a bunch of cultural symptoms of not enough touching.
