You can't understand deportations without understanding immigration courts. And right now, those courts are in crisis with new rule changes that could make things significantly worse. 🧵
The U.S. Built A Blueprint To Avoid Civilian War Casualties. Trump Officials Scrapped It.
Her politics aren't confused, she's just falling down the far right rabbit hole. It's very frustrating to me that this is always framed only around antisemitism: this is about a successful far right recruitment campaign using a progressive sore point (Israel).
This matters if we ant to stop it.
AI, as it exists and is planned, is anti-intellectual and misogynist.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp thinks AI technology will lessen the power of “highly educated, often female voters, who vote mostly Democrat.”

At my old job, we had a "VR lab" that I took students to circa 2017 or whatever. "We only have Space Pirate Trainer" they would say, almost apologetically, like there were better games out there that we just couldn't afford. Students had a blast. Little did any of us know it would peak there.
It's simple, it's perfect, it's a tech demo promising things to come that never materialize.
I mean no disrespect to any other VR games because it's hard to top Citizen Kane but also for such a young art form how is Space Pirate Trainer STILL the best VR game ever created?
When people ask me what to play first my answer hasn't changed for a fucking decade.
John Cage was a founding member. They have a song. No one feels qualified to sing it competently, so we did not get to hear it. Also John Cage did not compose their song.
Gen Xers and Millennials must reject this & form new models of elderhood.
Many Gen Xers want to retire @ 55-60 like our Silent generation forebears who had pensions. Sadly, we're not eligible for Medicare until age 65 or Social Security until age 67.
If we can afford to live, we will step aside.
1st time attending the annual nyc mycological society dinner. 84 year-old woman at our table was an absolute firecracker, got her PhD from NYU Cinema Studies in 1977, kept saying how good it was to be hanging out with us "children", keeps her feeling young. Cheeks went surprisingly unpinched.

We read Marinetti's Tactilism Manifesto in class this week and it's the 1920s version of 2020s edgelord.
I feel like people talk a lot about fascism, but in practice they don't really understand how it works.
fascism's whole appeal is exactly this; it packages traditional bigotries as innovative and edgy. 1
Trying to bring myself up to speed on "Gamergate 2.0"...when Jurgen Habermas said "some cultures shouldn't exist," it was after he'd spent 7 hours mainlining manosphere gamer videos on YouTube.
I make a ton of mistakes on my keyboard at work but typing on it sounds exactly like the keyboard sample at the start of The Hacker so yeah, it's a keeper

I saw Kate Crawford, Kishonna Gray and a bunch of other researchers I knew as “experts” in Grammarly. Sorry didn’t screenshot it all but here’s a screen recording me and Kishonna made last week. jilltxt.net/temp/grammar...
Alongside the humanitarian disaster, the scale of environmental disaster of this war is almost unfathomable. And all the MMM can talk about are oil prices, what about the cost of the release of toxins and CO2 into the atmosphere?
Look, I'm no international relations expert, but I'm starting to think starting a war with Iran was a really fucking stupid thing to do.
Folks, the use of AI to write reviews is a clear violation of peer review ethics + it endangers the authors' intellectual property rights. Don't do it.
Made hanging my head out the window and risking severe electrocution, not with AI
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention “believes that the U.S. is squarely within the early to middle stages of a genocidal process against trans people, the goal of which is to completely erase transgender people not only from public life but also from existence in the U.S. & globally”
I knew that the Department of War shot a missile into a school & killed 175 civilians, mostly children.
This is learned today:
Secretary of War Hegseth had cut the teams assigned to prevent such tragedies by 90%.

The Trump regime has no idea what it’s doing hour to hour, just in case you thought there was some grand strategy in Iran
Thinking about this more: I believe these CGI images have a similar relationship to documentary images of cruelty towards animals as the one between taxidermy and the zoo identified by ppl like John Berger and Donna Haraway. Visitors to the zoo go to have a moment of contact with a wild animal. 1/4
There's one across from my subway stop on the way home, it's very very convenient but yeah now it just functionally doesn't exist for me. A (super liberal) friend from undergrad is a marketing exec for them & said it's been a rough ride.
Trump only got into Wharton after his family pulled strings and got him an interview with an official who did a "special favor" to the family. A Wharton prof later said he was "the dumbest goddamn student" he ever had.
So, yes, his admission does say a lot about how smart he is.
ICE is not kidnapping minors. Fuck you ICE... ICE detains Marlborough 14-year-old, apparently as ‘hostage’ to target her father, Rep. Trahan says; The teenage girl was apparently used to bait her father during an "overnight attempt," Rep. Lori Trahan said.
