One of the saddest parenting milestones is when they get old enough to want to eat their own candy. Trick-or-treating with a 1-year-old is the best!

The fact that Whoppers were one of my favorites as a kid just came up in conversation with my wife. Although the context was that I had weird taste in candy as a kid.

I was a soft-tossing left-handed Orioles fan in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Needless to say, I was a huge Scott McGregor fan!

We’ve only done “full” Negro League seasons back to 1936. Rogan’s prime was the 1920s, so we’re probably missing some 10-K (and maybe 3-HR?) games of Rogan’s.

If I did this right, the only game in Retrosheet’s database in which a pitcher struck out 10 or more batters and hit more home runs than he allowed hits was on June 6, 1921 when Bill Gatewood threw the first no-hitter in Negro National League history.

I’m a Cubs fan but this is hilarious. I love that the Pope is a baseball fan from Chicago!

I remember her reaction when Retrosheet first posted some Negro League games: “Ooh, here’s a game where Josh Gibson and Jimmie Foxx played; and here’s a game where Joe DiMaggio faced Satchel Paige!”

I think so. I went looking for it after the fact. I think Jessica posted something along the lines of “If Blake Snell is done after 8 innings …” between innings and Sarah posted the same stat after Snell’s game was officially over.

My read is that she’s upset at Sarah for posting the same factual statement as Jessica did. Which … I mean, facts are facts: you literally can’t copyright facts.

Also been to maybe a dozen games where I wasn’t necessarily a fan of either team. They were all great!

Because watching a baseball game at a baseball park is great!

Only visit to Fenway, watched the Red Sox beat the Cubs 19-0. My favorite moment: Cubs gave up and put DH Matt Mervis on the mound.

Went to Skydome because the Orioles happened to be in town. Lots of fun!

I’ve been to two Brewers home games where I rooted for the other team: vs. the Orioles at County Stadium on my honeymoon; at Miller Park vs. the Cubs for my son’s 12th birthday. Had a great time both times!

Apparently, the discourse tonight is about rooting for the visiting team at a baseball game. I’ve done this a few times and always enjoyed it and enjoyed the folks there with me (mostly rooting for the other team, of course).

The ALCS matchup is between the first two expansion teams that I remember starting.
