There weren’t many people around early enough to catch us shooting with this beautiful sky. Sylvia made a great silhouette against the beautiful background sky. When we are touring locations we very often have to force ourselves out early in the morning to get the sunrise and beautiful soft light in the morning , then we have to whole day to explore when realistically the sun is too bright to make the best pictures , until later in the day we go out and shoot again in the golden evening light. Contrary to popular belief we don’t and can’t do pictures all day long so we get a great opportunity to explore the places we visit. Ibiza was a genuine surprise for me as once out of the main party towns the smaller resorts and the rest of the island has a really great lifestyle and vibe.

I was staying in a hotel just outside Barcelona and Sylvia came to do a shoot because it had some great features … including a piano out in the main hall. The windows however were great so of course we started and did a few portraits on this old chair. And after exploring all the options in the room we decided to sneak out in to the landing with the piano and do some pictures on the piano … it was only as the door clicked shut that I looked up and said “Oh no , did you bring the key “. Sylvia gave me one of those “are you absolutely stupid” looks as she stood naked holding only a white bedsheet and I realised that I’d managed to lock us out of the room. Many people’s immediate thoughts might have been to go down to reception and get another key but since there was nobody around we couldn’t get one so we took advantage and just got on with doing pictures on the landing until finally we really realised the gravity of the fact that Sylvia was literally without any clothes and we had no way of getting back in the room until the hotel reception returned several hours later …. After a little while I realised that there were balconies between the rooms and that if I could get in to a room next door I could climb over and get in through the window if I’d left it open. We discussed the idea and decided it was our best option so I started knocking on doors and luckily the room next door was occupied and a sleepy guy answered the knock. After explaining our predicament he let me in and I was able to climb over the balcony, luckily we werent on the top floor so I just didn’t look down and was able to get in the room through the window and open the door to let Sylvia back in ..I must admit when we got back in there we burst out laughing. I’m pretty sure the guy next door didn’t believe a word out our explanation as to why Sylvia was completely naked with just a sheet covering her, even though I had my camera with me at least. So this picture holds special memories for us

I’ve been shooting there couple years ago, but after 10min the wardens told us to stop, and I wasn’t even nude 🥺

At various points during Covid when no one could “officially” leave their homes, we were lucky enough to have a homemade natural light studio where we could keep creating and so our ideas and productivity continued all through the lockdown. I know we were in a very fortunate position and even though this picture was taken before Covid struck, it’s taken at home in front of a huge floor to ceiling window with a soft white curtain to control the harshness of the sun and provide a gorgeous light. Sylvia created a 50s style look with a black dress and pearls and we created a minimal set with candles and took an amazing number of photos in just a few minutes. Of course it always helps having an amazing model always full of ideas for posing too …. But you know sometimes you make your own luck 😊
