My reviewing style has changed over time. Rather than litigate every little thing, and pushing my own ideas, I focus only on 2 things:
(1) Are the claims interesting/important?
(2) Does the evidence support the claims?
Most of my reviews these days are short and focused.

pile of 10 dark green books stacked on a wooned tabletop
Look what just arrived early! It’s chunkier than I thought. Open access version on publication day which I think is the 18th on the @mitpress.bsky.social website. I must admit, I’m very fond of the colour!!! 🐦🐦 #syntax #newbook

🔍 What if Latin’s loss of vowel length, a change that shaped all of Romance, came not from stress shifts but from open-syllable lengthening leveling the field?
Loporcaro & Onorato argue just that in their new Open Access paper: www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi...

Flyer on Developmental Language Disorder, prepared by the organisation RADLD (Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder). The flyer has the title "You can't see DLD" and shows a photograph of a boy in a blue short-sleeved shirt and khaki trousers, against a purple background. To the right of him there are lines of text which read: - Started to talk later than his siblings - Has difficulties learning new words - Needs lots of repetitions to follow instructions - Struggles to join activities & discussions The bottom of the flyer says "Support #DLDday on Friday 17th October 2025. Learn more at RADLD.ORG".
Help spread the word about developmental language disorder, a common yet often hidden condition that makes it hard for children to understand what's said to them & to articulate thoughts & feelings. Lots of helpful resources & information at radld.org.
