Where I allow the story to envelop me to the point where the words become lost in the storyline. When words melt into storyline, I know I have found an important piece . . .
or maybe even just one word is enough to shine a glimpse into the writer’s heart. Secondly, I view myself as an advocate for writers. Here is where I let myself get taken away with the beauty of creative nonfiction . . .
Meet our CNF editor, Susan Griego!
From Susan: "As the creative non-fiction editor for the Santa Fe Literary Review, I view my role in two ways. One, as a conduit for writers who are engaged in their craft at an organic level; where genre isn’t forced, but instead the pattern of words . . .
. . . From unique compositions to multimedia experiments, if the artist is pushing boundaries and trying something new, then I'm excited!"

but I don't only look for that. I enjoy experimental poetry, and poetry that is brave and unforgettable. I have a soft spot for poems that evoke strong emotions in a concise way. . . .
As I sift through hundreds of poetry submissions I always have the theme in mind - but what exactly that is going to look like tends to unfold all on its own. I can appreciate the work that goes into writing formal poetry . . .
I have been poetry editor for the SFLR since 2022. Poetry is so versatile and there is never a "right way" to write it. Every poet has a voice, a structural style, and a story or hidden meaning to share. I really enjoy the surprise element that comes with reading poetry. . . .
Meet Maria Rodriguez, our poetry editor!
