BRB, starting asmr channel of just riding fake public transport and chill.

Thinking about that lil robot.

Completely blueprints. I did have to make one minor change to the engine to allow the camera to rotate without gimbal lock though.

SDFs would not be good as I don't want every surface to be 'magnetized'

But we have elite at home

DRG was def an inspiration. Everytime I've mined in elite, I couldn't help but think how every asteroid could be a level.

Game premise: Space goblin mining crew that harvest valuable parts off the corpses of dead space gods for profit, while dealing with eventual insanity.

Guess in today's environment, it would be considered 'Friend Slop'.

It looks a bit crazy, but the non-uniform gravity actually controlled really comfortably.

I was also just learning about possessing actors.

The intent was to have a procedural skybox. These planets are completely unlit material wise. It's all just shader magic.

Playing NMS again has me thinking about my project from a couple years back. Was a real challenge to do no uniform gravity. Even more so to do multiplayer.

Keeping all the characters locked into a gravity field that moves was a pain.

This is what the animation ended up being. At some point I'll redo her shoulder weights so that they don't bend so weird at the clavicle.

whyyyy

... I have no idea. I suppose in theory as frame gen is its own thread? Getting out of my knowledge pool here.

It was this. My game was running around 200fps.

24.02.2026 09:46 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

The trouble comes in when the game is updating faster than the physics. Small little overlaps can happen as something moved when the physics engine wasn't looking.

24.02.2026 09:44 — 👍 4    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

It's not so much that the physics is tied to FPS as it is the physics sort of operates in its own little world. And that world updates 30 (usually) times a second. This is why physics engines can run so efficiently. It's basically got just one job to do. It doesn't efficiently.

IT WAS THE FRAME RATE
If you lock the FPS below 60fps, almost all the physics nonsense stops. The higher your FPS, the more insane the physics gets.

After I finally got there, I couldn't figure out why the mission didn't complete.

Looks like I went to the wrong processing plant.
Well. How far could the correct one be?

Won't be till it's in engine. The animations are authored to take place during the cooldown portion of the prior attack, so would require too much modifying out of engine to look right. I'll be working in engine soon and we'll get to find out together if it even looks good.

Cascadeur. A physics driven animation app. Though for this project, I'm really not using its physics tools, but I love how easy the rig controls are for it, so I just work in there.
