Jacek's fascinating work covers history & present of devices producing/re-producing voices & their social relevance; highlights challenges created by contemporary voice-catching & 'listening-in' technologies often led by hegemonic control logic; looks into artistic practice as voices of resistance
Last - but certainly not least - at our @uumediacomms.bsky.social annual Research Day is the presentation by the one and only Jacek Smolicki speaking about his fab work on "Voices as relations: Artistic explorations into voice capturing technologies"
Analysing HE as public institutions, Daniel explores civic epistemologies of a 'Nordic' strategic comms model/logic inquiring into pre/disposition & tendency to perceive/define/conceptualise & use strategic communication in specific way/s, treats de/commodification of strategic comms as central
Next on @uumediacomms.bsky.social grand annual Research Day is the one and only Daniel Lövgren speaking about his fab work on "Epistemologies of Communication in Nordic Universities: A Study of (Strategic) Communication Professionals"
Johan's analysis asks how screen presence/usage is dependent on, and correlated with, social inequalities; links everyday & mundane media use/logic with wider political economy of 'screenequalities' deploying Bourdieusian take on social class & habitus
After a short lunch break we are resuming our discussions @uumediacomms.bsky.social annual Research Day - with great Johan Lindell now presenting on "Screenequalities: Mapping social inequality in digitalized everyday life"
Much needed work indeed by @emmaronngren.bsky.social & Göran Svensson - v relevant to @goranbolin.bsky.social & other great colleagues working on return of propaganda paradigm; calls for further analysis of not only taken-4-granted meanings but also 'conceptual flipsiding' of propaganda as concept
In their paper, @emmaronngren.bsky.social & Göran discuss concept of 'propaganda' while looking into its historical and still persistent relevance and viability - but while also questioning possibilities for its potential abandonment due to complexity of contemporary media & communication realities
Next @uumediacomms.bsky.social Research Day we are moving to the fabulous @emmaronngren.bsky.social & Göran Svensson speaking about their fascinating work on "Propaganda and International Communication: Conceptual challenges and transformations in times of information disorder and war"
The results of this analysis have just been published in a paper by Johan Jansson & Claes Thorén in Convergence journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
Using critique of post-digitality, Claes discusses the role of digital artefacts in acceleration, alienation & 'deterritorialization' (Deleuze) - calls for more dichotomous digital & communication artefacts that create public & individual resonance and resist hegemonic logic of technological tools
Next on @uumediacomms.bsky.social Research Day is the fab Claes Thoren discussing his fascinating work on "Resonance in an accelerating world: Understanding the emergence and characteristics of post-digital artifacts"
Peter looks at 'knowledge orders' established by transformation surrounding arrival of new/online and esp. social media, points to e.g. political challenges of undermining/questioning knowledge as strategy creating further affordances for, inter alia, conspiracy theories, climate change denial etc.
After fab Lucia break a.k.a. 'Fika' we are resuming the fabulous presentations at annual @uumediacomms.bsky.social Research Day - with our great Peter Jakobsson now speaking abt "News media as epistemic intermediaries: How has the epistemic practices of journalism changed in age of social media?"
Ahh 'fika', I remember you fondly
V. interesting discursive shifts presented in Matilda Tudor's fascinating analysis - shifting discourse from ambiguity too apparent (dis)ambiguity constructed despite controversies around MAA persisting and its politicisation increasing
Matilda's paper does CDS of media contestation of MAA (medical age assessment procedures) used in asylum applications of unaccompanied minors in SE in immediate post-Refugee-Crisis period of 2015-17; looks at biometrics as ideological technology from a lived experience & public discourse perspective
