BREAKING — Mayor of Lewiston, Maine posts on FB that ICE is coming to the city imminently. This confirms my reporting the agency is planning a surge in the city and state generally.
Lewiston is home to a large Somali-American population, which made up 4.6% of the population as of the 2020 census.
I am donating to this and I would very much like it if others who can donate would do the same. It's not OK that only $6500 has been collected so far. Thank you. www.gofundme.com/f/support-fo...
Love this. My great-aunt sold silk "neckties" by Park St station which helped send her son to college.
This is essentially the plot of The Sound of Music.

Undoing *any* decent thing America ever did in the last few decades. Monsters.
I also got the impression in school that antisemitism was a 1930-40ss Nazi thing. However, it's ancient. That and its persistence now is so shocking
Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.
Nick Hornby called him "England's unofficial poet laureate" in Spin which was a big deal! Well, to me - a dedicated Spin reader pre-internet/substack.
Nice to see Jarvis Cocker here! When his first record with Pulp came out, I remember deciding I'd name a kid Jarvis someday if I had one. (actually had a kid 18 yrs later and had forgotten about this decision by 22 yr old me)

We should take it way more seriously than we do that these unspeakably wealthy and powerful men are publicly equating summary judgement and public execution with their gender.
That’s real sick. Real real sick.

Every year since 1988, the United States has recognized World AIDS Day — until now.
Why not? Maybe because the Trump administration doesn’t want to acknowledge that its foreign aid cuts led to nearly 150,000 deaths from AIDS, according to Boston University researchers.
Shameful.
"Western civilization," the font, the 11 stars - 11 states in the confederacy, for the record.
Why is this never news? Why are we letting our government agencies do this sort of thing while the news agencies report on hallucinated trade deals and act like everything is normal
A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.
And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.
Their campaign against immigrants is now targeting the communities that first occupied this land, which shows how none of this makes any damn sense. This is shameful. All of it is shameful.
+1 these folks made my day.
Breaking: people with “struggle unless they are interested” disorder do well once they can work in an area that interests them
I have a 100lb dog and there is nothing more scary than having an off-leash dog running at him. If he freaks out, he can 100% knock me down and then whatever happens will be his fault.
This is incredibly moving and she makes so many connections here. One of the hardest to read is her desire to protect her mother from more trauma. What a heartbreak.
I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.
Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
Amazon announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year.
UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.
Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M.
This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.
Ugh, yeah it's sad. My dad is 82 now and has been retired for a long time, but he definitely had stories. He was a Watertown cop from the early 70's into the late 90s, nearly 30 years.
My dad's been here (from rural Alabama) since the 60s and he has very similar stories. Became a cop, but it was very hard for a Protestant "rebel" (they legit called him that) at the time in the evolved north.
Here’s a story for every national news outlet:
In N.C., churchgoers are literally running into the woods as federal agents descend on the property.
“Inside the church, women and children sobbed as they wondered whether their loved ones had been taken.”

When I've visited Ireland you can order a "glass" of any beer and that means a half pint. It's the best.
Yes, unfortunately I assume the same.
This article is from 2020--is this still happening?! Horrifying.
