For all who more or less know the butterflies of NW Europe, but find the diversity of the Balkans overwhelming, there is a masterclass on "Eastern continental and Balkan butterfly species" by Rudi Verovnik on 11th February at 15h CET. For more details see butterfly-monitoring.net/epic-butterfly

Hi Anthony, I just have a quick question!
I'm writing a paper about the discovery of a failed biological invasion by a leaf beetle, based on a specimen from a historical museum!
Do you know of any similar cases? 💭

The impact of taxonomic change on the Amazonian palm flora | Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences
Although taxonomy is an evolving discipline, taxonomic change is rarely accounted
for in macroecological studies. By tracking the history of species descriptions and
synonymizations of Amazonian palms...
Taxonomy is under constant change; species classification is revised continuously, and changes accumulate affecting biodiversity metrics & generating uncertainty that is rarely assessed. Juliana Stropp review how taxonomic changes have changed the observed Amazonian palm richness patterns 👇🧪🌐 #NICED

Detail of one of the entomological boxes with pinned and labelled bee specimens brought to practice ID.
Borrowed by FLOWer Lab (Univ. of Coimbra).
A live male Panurgus in a plastic tube. Collected from the CISE pollinator garden.
Eight bee specimens were mounted on a foam plate and left to dry with pins.
All specimens were collected in accordance with standard practices, identified and labelled, and will be integrated into several NH collections.
Disclaimer: I collected the specimens for training purposes during the course.
A pinned bee specimen in my hand. I don't remember the ID. It's cuticle shows metallic reflections –maybe a tiny male Seladonia? Below the specimen is a collection label.
This specimen belonged to the aforementioned FLOWer Lab.
Genus fact sheets, guidance during identification sessions and quizzes, as well as fieldwork! 🧩 All in the same week!
It's time to get to know the bee-diversity hotspot that is the Iberian Peninsula better!
