Great crested grebes ‘weed dancing’ is a sure sign Spring is in the air. Their courtship starts face to face, imitating each other’s movements. They then swim in opposite directions, dive and re-emerge with weed. Finally, they swim towards each other, rise up and dance. #Birds #WildlifePhotography
Missing stories also represent gaps in understanding about – and between – many different communities sharing and shaping Glasgow. Gaps only too easily filled by the malevolent forces of our time.
But here was a small group of activists of the most benevolent kind…

Good work @severincarrell.bsky.social
I remember the story - and that odd Scottish mix of shocking but not surprising
Good journalists tell inconvenient truths
Stable democracy depends on fearless scrutiny of government - Scotland should not fear such scrutiny
I repeat - @scottishgov.bsky.social and @johnswinney.bsky.social have known for years Prestwick is used by US armed forces to support its offensive operations. And the Scottish govt has openly touted for US military business for Prestwick; its officials flew to US military fairs to do so
“You’re not going to put that in your article are you? Bastard. Bastard!”

For the 2nd time in 2 days, the BBC World at One #wato reports that there are upcoming elections to the “Scottish Government”. This is not true. There are upcoming elections to Scottish Parliament. Government is then elected by MSPs. This is elementary stuff to get right
Really enjoyed last night. Great warm welcome for Ray Perman by Dunbar History Society in the Town House
You could feel the pride of place among local people, here to discover a great man James Hutton whose remarkable story is not widely known

The Revelator is an extraordinary space, dreamed up by an extraordinary, generous artist. I was lucky to chair a Round Table discussion there exploring Glasgow’s missing stories - and why we need to hear them - with a great bunch of people. Did the heart good.

For what it’s worth, today I will share recent experiences of kindness - both involve storytelling and a good sense of place, the first in Glasgow at the extraordinary creative Wall of Death in The Revelator (said with a rev), the second at Dunbar History Society exploring ‘deep time’
The Wall of Death - not a cosy space but here full of warm-hearted kind people. In the chilling time we are in it was good to meet such a benevolent bunch.
I enjoyed their stories at this Glasgow Round Table exploring how to connect communities.
Hope you do too. fayyoung.org/stories-of-g...
I think we owe you a dram! Will certainly keep you one. Ray says he’s got a special discount for the talks
Great to hear from you Graham
Yes, Ray’s got a wheelie bag full of books 😊
Tonight 7.30pm in Dunbar Town House, author Ray Perman talks to history society about James Hutton 'Forgotten Titan of the Enlightment' (with a personal secret), less well known than Adam Smith and James Watt but of equal importance to human development #history, #enlightment

Thank you Mr Thread 🙂
I know, I'm married to the author so not totally impartial. But Ray Perman's a very good storyteller with a journalistic eye for human detail. His talk @oldedinburghclub.bsky.social 18 March 7-8.30pm
Hutton, by the way, was quite a human. #JamesHutton #geology

Good to see this Washington Post tribute to Perth Museum, a great cultural asset to the Scottish city. Poor Perth very much in need of a boost

This is very moving, the last day of the Covid inquiry. Disturbing to see some people questioning the cost and purpose. The enduring cost of Covid is still not publicly recognised www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Sorely disappointed in what seems an extraordinary failure of process. The Ecocide Bill is a great example of cross-party working, supported by almost 3/4 of MSPs, including the first minister. Why block it so close to completion?

A notable feature of Green politics in Scotland too
I’m frustrated that Labour doesn’t more often argue for green (lower case) investment to create jobs, housing, hope. Totally mystified that Green politicians don’t - or do they think campaigning on environment would lose votes?
