Personally I think Hau should have been a post credits fight like May in ORAS. At the risk of using an overused term he just does not have the aura for a champion fight.
Like, after 20 years finally pulling the trigger on โyou fight the professorโ combined with Kukui being a solid character and having a pretty good team, felt a lot more fitting.
I like Hau, especially in Ultra but heโd such a pushover every fight that it felt anticlimactic.
Honestly I kinda prefer the original finale.

To me one of the most egregious example of that is Lusamine. I can actually see the outline of a really satisfying continuation of her role in the original. But as is, her new role just feels like a clumsy rewrite.
USUM feels like something that was originally planned to be a sequel but got rewritten into a third version partway through development.
You have all these great additions to the setting and characters that feel awkwardly slapped onto the original.

Claiming Classic is exclusively nostalgia pandering when Superstars was the only recent game to not reuse past zones is a take for sure.
