This is a terrifying case of the police misusing AI.
Angela Lipps was locked up for four months based solely on the result of facial recognition software, losing her house and pets. It's insane that a force can be so lazy that they don't even bother investigating and just trust the software.
I held off for as long as I could, but had to sign up.
Pretty accurate.
True enough. Was talking to a taxi driver and telling him about UK prices and he nearly drove off the road.
Big Sur is a beautiful place that is also renowned for having the highest gas prices in the state. I took this a decade ago to show friends how bad things were
My better half spotted a local Shell station today is selling petrol/gas at $6 a gallon, up from $4.50 last week, and diesel is even worse.
"I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure." -Clarance Darrow.
My latest piece for The Stack on Microsoft taking a leaf from the antivirus industry and "fingerprinting" LLM prompt injection attacks to block them across multiple agents.
The paper looks very interesting but Microsoft has declined to comment on when it'll be released.
Probably not a good idea, even if Wash comes back.
A lovely obit, and the last three words speak volumes. A proper old-school hacker.
One of these days we'll do another show together. Have fun!
I promise this month's View from the Valley had no forewarning of Iran strikes. It does look like AI was involved, but not in that way. www.techfinitive.com/features/vie...
That said, the willingness to go nuclear is worrying - someone should teach LLMs about the effect of EMP on servers.
I used to be a wolf...
I stand corrected, thank you.
I stand corrected, thank you.
In a delightful touch Princess Anne was visiting a prison in Leeds today.
Andrew, the royal formerly known as Prince, was arrested on his 66th birthday over claims he leaked UK trade data to Epstein. That's a hearty "f*** you" from his older brother.
As far as I'm aware the last time a royal was actually arrested was King Charles I in 1647. The Firm are clearly angry.
I get it.
Did a similar flight from Jakarta to Heathrow via Kuwait and the only english film was Speed 2. Flying back to the US is worse by miles.
Got given the hard stare by these two local gobblers. Thanksgiving seems a while away.
It's been a long time...
A lovely chat with @grahamcluley.com about security and other things. Always a pleasure.
Had a morning chat with someone in the UK and it's disturbing that they were more up to speed on American politics than most Americans.
Hope your gravy is better than mine. Onions needed another 10 minutes at least.
The Washington Post layoffs are brutal, and tech journos I really respect have been tossed overboard. There's an opportunity for those hiring talent, but such a waste.
The foreign desk has been neutered, the rest of the paper reduced to a shell. And Bezos killing the Books team is darkly ironic.
The Views from the Valley review of January for TechFinitive.com is up.
Robots failing to rise at CES, Dario Amodei's warnings about AI, and the first four of the Magnificent Seven's quarterly results showing the realities of infrastructure spending. Apple may well have the best bubble plan.
Sunday night toad in the hole with onion gravy and veggies. Despite its name this dish has won my wife over.
In Jean-Luc's voice, not Shatner.
Had to do the same and am rather glad I did, given the current measles outbreak. Childhood shots wear off over time.
A bottle of fun..
No sense being a mardy bum about it 😄
Excellent exclusive from @thomasbrewster.bsky.social, and something that's unsettling reading for Microsoft users.
