Thank you! I had a mandolin cut myself a few months back and now use one of those cut-resistant gloves. 🧀 πŸ©ΉπŸ‘†

Do you have a recipe you would recommend? Or are you making treats that are dehydrated sweet potato pieces?
I have several that need used up, and I think the poodle and border collie might enjoy them. πŸ πŸ˜‹

Do you think it was chasing a smaller bird that flew through the fence? 🧐

A cloud trails across the sky over a historic smokestack in SW WA state, giving the appearance of streaming smoke. A reflection of the scene is mirrored in the old mill pond.

#AlphabetChallenge #WeekJforJuxtaposition

I’ve got to give this up, said the cloud. I’m smoking like a chimney. (Hack, hack) 😏

Hey, cool 😎 missed that in the field guide. (Though the Peterson guide just refers to it as a Cascade Ground Squirrel.) Thank you! πŸ™

Beautiful! I love their green iridescence. I don’t see them often, but it’s so special when I do.

Sweat bee (Hymenoptera: Halictidae) females keep busy excavating nests in the ground, provisioning the nests with prey for their young, and feeding on flower nectar and pollen. They're important pollinators of a variety of crops. Palmyra Michigan, 30 May 2021.

Screenshot of my field guide app, Peterson Field Guides, Mammals of North America.

😊 I’ve really enjoyed learning more about the different species of mammals. I have this field guide on my phone that helps me verify what I’m looking at, and so much lighter than carrying a half dozen physical books for plants and animals and birds. It’s always good to see the range maps, etc..

Thank you! They are the cutest little beggars. Though you can hardly blame them when winter is coming on fast in the mountains.

They are adorable πŸ₯° though less so when they’re digging through the pockets of your pack. 😏

A black and blue colored Steller's jay sitting on a weathered wooden trellis, back to the camera, facing to the right. Behind it, growing on the trellis, is a clematis vine with bright pink colored flowers. The background is a dark green bokeh.

A favorite Steller's jay visiting the clematis in our garden last spring

Another photo from looking back at my Flickr albums, taken in September 2011. This Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel is on the alert, checking the hikers out for possible treats.

Felix looked on approvingly as his person posted a catty reply. β€œThat will make the fur fly,” he added.

TIL that birds have more vertebrae in their neck than mammals. Even a giraffe has only seven cervical bones, while herons have between 20 to 25 neck vertebrae.

Great Egret and reflection

The pink gape at the corner of the beak indicates this is a youngster. I love this alert look. A young Steller’s Jay, in the afternoon light, closing in on another peanut.

A Yellow-faced Bumble Bee (Bombus vosnesenskii) in the garden flying between statice, or sea lavender blossoms. It appears to be making a great leap to the larger cluster of flowers.

#AlphabetChallenge #WeekJforJuxtaposition

The bumblebee considered the two flower clusters and determined which would give more status, er, statice.
