This has always been the problem with chasing focus groups and polls rather than fighting for core values. If the Democrats change tack now they will look wish washy and will have to defend their previous support of Israel. They should have seen what was coming and taken a stand.

They’re welcome to visit to take in the great views and enjoy the incredible restaurants we have. But they won’t be taking anyone home with them, or out of the state.

Power. It’s all about power. And the GOP is willing to adopt just straight up fascism to keep power. Nothing at all is off the table, which is why it is so important that they lose power.

I know nobody under 30 will believe me, but this is the sort of scandal that ended careers, back in the before-times. Congressional hearings, weeks worth of Nightline reports, the whole works. The press _lived_ for this stuff.

Naomi Osaka’s reaction after reaching her first WTA 1000 final in more than 3 years.

She’s put in so much hard work since making her return to tennis.

This is the type of result she’s been working so hard for.

Couldn’t be happier for her. πŸ₯Ή

Like, they actually aired an episode in which the primary villain was an openly fascist prison guard named 'Lock-Up' who - among other things - literally ranted about the "Permissive Liberal Media" while kidnapping journalists.

Batman the Animated Series is rightfully heralded as one of the greatest animates series ever.

But I feel like not enough people talk about the fact that it routinely gave the middle finger to reactionaries in a manner that would send Fox News into a complete tailspin if it aired today.

The moral panic over students using their free speech to express opinions conservatives disagreed with was never a genuine threat to free speech, though.

It was always about suppressing student speech because richer and more powerful people didn't like what they had to say.

I've long since stopped believing that someone will have the backbone to make a move against him. But to be fair, that is the exact collection of bozos you'd expect to be gathering if it were to happen.

The government firing hundreds of thousands of people and throwing student op-ed writers in prison for not endorsing the regime’s ideology is not cancel culture and fine. Getting criticized on the internet is cancel culture and must be condemned. My name is Freddie deBoer and I’m very smart.

Why So Many Key Institutions Have Folded Rather Than Challenge Trump Yes, they’re under pressure. But maybe a lot of these leaders kinda like what Trump’s doing. Just remember: They were defeated once before.

In my first TNR piece, I explained why so many key institutions, including my former employer, The Washington Post, aren't as anti-Trump now as they were from 2017-2020. It's a story of self-interest, institutional change and frustration with movements on the left. newrepublic.com/article/1987...

Brown University is β€˜functionally inaccessible’ to transgender students after Trump settlement β€œEveryone I talked to thought it only applied to sports. But it applies to everything," one transgender student told The Advocate.

The Trump administration effectively created a de facto bathroom ban at Brown University and none of the major media is covering it, and if they do, they character it as about sports. This is how the trans visa ban was enacted and characterized.

I'm not one to bet on how certain technologies will shake out (that's usually a good way to end up with egg on your face). That said: The tech figures hyping the "AI Revolution" are increasingly looking like the used car salesman who's trying to conceal his flop sweat.

Completely random music take: I'd argue that one reason Kendrick has had this sustained run of both critical and commercial success is that he pretty much never listens to his fans.

The persistent belief that people who believe abhorrent things are identifiably abhorrent 100% of the time is honestly going to kill us all.

My theory is that if we taxed most of these people without telling them and the people they pay to manage their money didn't tell them, they'd never notice.

And if you'd never notice you should be taxed even more.

Journalism is the only civilian profession protected in the US Constitution and you would never know it from how the marquee journalists at our agenda-setting newspapers behave. I’d ask how they don’t die from embarrassment but I suspect they are incapable of the emotion.
