Hello Gardening Friends,

Yesterday was the last day of summer, and the deck was glorious. This is my favourite time to sit out there, as it is fully shaded until early evening, with the sun so low on the horizon. 🌱 I am looking forward to the warm days, cool nights, and spectacular fall colors.

Hello Gardening Friends,

I know I said this before, but I can't get enough of Verbena bonariensis. 🌱 It's my new favourite plant.

Have a great day.

Hello Gardening Friends,

Here is my morning coffee spot. At this time of year, the sunrises are lower on the horizon, making for beautiful morning light surrounded by green. 🌱 Have a great day.

No, I am close to the Canda/US border right in the center. It's a pisser.

Hello Gardening Friends,

Verbena bonariensis is having its moment. It looks spectacular peeking above established plants and is breathtaking planted as a mass. 🌱 This year was my first time winter sowing as seed, I will start earlier to have larger plugs moving forward. Have a great day.

Hello Gardening Friends,

I ordered some Castile soap to de-bug my houseplants before moving them back indoors. 🌱πŸͺ΄ Tonight, there is a frost risk in my neck of the woods, the unofficial end of summer. This is my first time trying this method. Happy Saturday!

Hello Gardening Friends,

I had the dehydrator running in the garage overnight and have started preserving my herbs for winter. Parsley and Sage are in jars. 🌱

I don't think so. I think it was a combination of old seed and poor quality soil added to my beds.

Hello Gardening Friends,

This years crop failure is undoubtedly the corn. I am surprised to see an ear actually forming considering the lack of another stalk. The variety is 'Bodacious', and it was a couple of years old. 🌱 It is going to be delicious.

Let me know your failures this growing year.

Hello Gardening Friends,

I'm not sure who recommended this book to me, but it is fantastic. I am in the midst of Chapter 3 and just finished the section on prisoners at Rikers Island and their gardens. Inspiring and confirming, the power of Gardening.

I highly recommend it. 🌱

Hello Gardening Friends,

I have been chugging away at my raised beds project and helping friends at the lake. This morning, I need something pretty. Here is a pic of the only Marigold (Tagetes sp.) I grew this summer. It is 'Linneaus Burning Embers' 🌱 Have a lovely Momday.

I am at the point in my daily walks where the sun is not over the horizon when I start my walks, but fully up when I finish. Makes for a beautiful sunrise show while walking.

Have a lovely day.

Hello Gardening Friends,

Now that my raised beds are full of soil, my mind is shifting to planting. I seeded buckwheat to jump start the weeds. I am going to spend the winter planning my mixed beds. I do think I am going to attempt to espalier Apples along my west side fence. 🌱

It's a cubic yard. A yard is 3 feet or 90 cm. In Canada, we use both imperial and metric measuring because of our southern neighbor. It can be confusing. Some people think we are polite, but in reality, we are always mathing, so we are more likely to be dazed and confused. JK, we are polite.

Hello Gardening Friends,

It took six teenage boys 3 hours to move 15yds of soil into my perimeter raised beds. It cost me $100 in steak and a few beers by a bonfire. 🌱 I am not sure who was happier about the deal, them or me, but they sure had fun. Have a beautiful day.

Another smokey morning from the fires up north makes for a beautiful sunrise. This mornings sunrise reminds me of a Tatooine sunset. Happy Long Weekend Friday! #StarWars #Longweekend

Hello Gardening Friends,

My daylillie's are in full swing. Last year, I wasn't a big fan of their coloring, but this year, I am all for it. I haven't done a dive into figuring out the variety, but now that I have some good pics, I can look into it. 🌱 Have a great day.

Hello Gardening Friends,

The rain has been a pain here. I am still mowing twice a week and barely managing to stay on top of the weeds. I did get a chance to get out to the lake with friends. What a lovely view. 🌱

How is your garden holding up this summer?

Hello Gardening Friends,

Spied a Leafy Spurge Hawk Moth Caterpillar (𝘏𝘺𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘣π˜ͺ𝘒𝘦) being attacked by an army of ants. Rescued her from the ambush, dusted her off, and flung her on her way. Good luck little lady, do your thing. 🌱

Have a great day.

My friend and I were discussing our blueberry vs. saskatoon preferences as children. Her preference was saskatoon. She didn't realize they were different. She just thought some people made bad pie. πŸ˜†

My Lilies are starting to open up. Albeit later than all my neighbors. It was here when I moved in, a beautiful pink. Have a great day. 🌱

Hello Gardening Friends,

Through masses of invasive perennials, I see these little nuggets of native prairie joy. This Purple Prairie Clover (Delea purpurea) is so delicate looking, growing 30cm tall, in a wide range of soils. It's name honour's English botanist Samuel Dale. 🌱 Enjoy your day.

Hello Gardening Friends

Happy Saturday. Here's a pic from a few weeks back if my planted raised beds. 🌱 This weekends plan is to get the perimeter beds cleared and stained. My teenagers and I are not looking forward to moving 24yds of soil by hand, but that will be for another time.

Enjoy the day.

Hello Gardening Friends,

Snow in July? Relax, it's Poplar tree fluff. Allergy sufferers, you got this. 🌱 Makes me wonder, what are the worst trees in your neck of the woods? It's a toss-up here between Manitoba Maples (rot inside/out & prolific seeders) and Poplars (Fluff & root shoots).
