A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. - Ursula K. Le Guin - Keep Writing. - Image: Motion capture open lens as cars race by a lit up circular stadium causing the colors to naturally blur and extend on the road instead of cars.

Always write for you first and foremost. This is the secret to happiness as an author, a writer, I think. Editing is then for the readers to understand what you wrote. To all writers, show your best dreams. -Wrtr #amwriting #WritingCommunity .. #writer #author #writing

Sometimes the writing in your story doesn't go quite as planned. Keep Writing. Sometimes those questions turn out to be the best stories. #amwriting #amediting #author #writing

Ideas are the easy part. The hard part is writing them down. - Patricia C. Wrede - Text is displayed on an image of a green pine tree forest lined up in front of a massive granite mount range filling the background behind the trees.

β€œOne of the things everybody seems to want to ask writers is, β€œWhere do you get your ideas?” When people ask me this, my usual response is, β€œIdeas are the easy part. The hard part is writing them down.” - Patricia C. Wrede #amwriting #author #writing.

It is really hard being a writer these days. The industry is getting tougher all the time. You can REALLY help authors and books you love by talking about them. Word of mouth is real magic, your voice matters, it's never too small. Share your enthusiasm for books you love. And THANK YOU.

Alone I stand, waiting for Michael with my almost-bare trolley
Beyond the checkout, watching shoppers pass by
In their own little bubbles

A mother lugging a big Barbie box. A man in a leather jacket
Absorbed in his phone, his minimal purchases
Dangling in a stripey cloth bag

I look further, past Sorry checkout is closed, to watch
Shoppers absorbed in their lists
Comparing cucumbers, scrolling while they shop
While in the background, ferocious beeping intrudes on my thoughts

I’m self-conscious as I dictate into my phone for the first time,
Pausing for the man passing with a bunch of flowers
In case he hears me describe him

Now I see my neighbour unfolding his bags, not expecting
Me to have finished my shopping first

My own bubble is overwhelming in a place like this,
Constantly penetrated, invaded, by the noises
Of other bubbles around me.

French: "This chair is feminine: la chaise."
German: "This chair is masculine: der Stuhl!"
English: "This chair is an object, I don't see a skirt or a pair of trousers anywhere on its cold hard surface. You people are fucking insane."
Japanese: "If you don't pronounce chair exactly right, you'll end up saying testicles instead."

Something was definitely wrong. Swaying, creaking, and now … β€œDoes that sound like the ocean outside to you?”

He gave her a condescending look. β€œIt’s a ship. What else would you expect?”
Β
She sighed. β€œYou’ve never been into space before, have you?”

I’m discovering that #writing competitions where the first line is provided for you are probably not for me! But my afternoon was not wasted: the ideas I did come up with may not fit the prompt, but I’m sure I can find some use for them 😊
