@tessacrosbie.bsky.social‘s work helps identify the pathways through which pathogens, antibiotic-resistant microbes, and chemical contaminants enter freshwater systems 🦠🌊🧫. She’s honoured to learn from and work alongside an incredible group of female scientists here at UKCEH.
@rosawagstaff.bsky.social is a second year PhD student studying environmental science, specifically looking at microbial response 🦠 to algae-derived dissolved organic carbon in freshwater lakes, using #eDNA 🧬. Rosa is based at UKCEH and Lancaster University.
@laurens-colours.bsky.social is a molecular ecologist researching biodiversity monitoring with #eDNA 🧬, from detecting invasive & endangered species to whole communities. She also works on community science and integrating eDNA into policy & is an award-winning science communicator & artist 👩🎨
"I’m Holly, and as a senior molecular microbiologist, I’m proud of my journey - from an early fascination with microbes 🦠 to a career studying how resistance moves through the environment and water systems 🧫🌊, bridging science, policy & industry to protect public health" - @hollytipper.bsky.social
"As a #WomanInSTEM researching #AMR, I explore 🍄 antifungal resistance in soil & compost, and 💊multidrug resistance in wastewater. My work focuses on understanding how resistance spreads in the environment to help protect public health & shape sustainable solutions. 🌍🔬" - @rachelapayne.bsky.social
"I’m a PhD student at UKCEH and the University of Bath using microbial source tracking to study how antimicrobial resistance 🧫 and pathogens 🦠 spread in rivers 🌊. My research aims to pinpoint pollution sources and help protect environmental and public health" - @rosieelliott.bsky.social
"As a #WomanInSTEM it’s been my privilege to explore microbial responses to environmental change in diverse environments, such as:⛰️mountain ecosystems,🍯honey,🦐groundwater stygofauna,🪱earthworms from Chernobyl,🦠wild animal microbiomes & 🌊ocean acidified communities" - @lindsaynewbold.bsky.social
Happy #WomenInSTEM day! 👩🔬
The Molecular Ecology group at @ukceh.bsky.social comprises of many fantastic women👩🔬 conducting research on all things #molecular #ecology, #AMR, #microbes 🧬🦠🧫
Stay tuned as we introduce you to some them over the course of today ⬇️
Really excited that the Molecular Ecology group is going to be leading this project! ⬇️🌊
Stay tuned as we introduce our researchers working on this, and for updates on sampling and lab work!
🚨 New Job Alert 🚨
We're currently recruiting a Lab Manager to manage the @ukceh.bsky.social Wallingford labs! 🔬🧪👨🔬👩🔬
They will be responsible for all labs but will be part of Molecular Ecology group 😊

#WAAW2025
We process our monitoring samples in a variety of ways, which include #phenotypic testing for #AMR, as well as using #molecular methods such as #qPCR and #sequencing to look for specific antimicrobial resistance genes 🦠🧬👩🔬🧫

Happy World #AMR Awareness Week! #WAAW #WAAW25
At @ukceh.bsky.social our AMR researchers work on both #bacterial and #fungal AMR!
We undertake research monitoring AMR in many different environments (water 🌊, wastewater 💩, air 💨, soil 🌱 & plants 🌿), which means we get out in the field a lot!
@hollytipper.bsky.social & @istanton.bsky.social went to visit the Unilever labs yesterday to meet up with their PhD student Olivia Mescall and her other supervisors @profjrsnape.bsky.social & Katie Endersby!
As well as talking about Olivia's PhD, they went on a tour of the Unilever labs! 🥼🧪
Last month, @hollytipper.bsky.social & @istanton.bsky.social attended the Microbiome Innovation and One Health Conference in Oxford 🦠🧫
They co-presented on their work on #AMR in environmental microbiomes, as well as attending the networking event at @morethanadodo.bsky.social 🦖
@hollytipper.bsky.social is a Senior Molecular Microbiologist working on environmental #AMR. Holly is interested in how resistance spreads through water systems & the environment and what that means for public health. She works at the intersection of science, policy & industry💧🧫🌍
The work on evaluating the UK's #AMR National Action Plan was recently published which focused on stakeholder opinions on the implementation of the 2019-2024 plan 🦠
