McDavid pushes back on idea that Oilers are 'wounded' Connor McDavid isn't a fan of "this notion that we're the walking wounded." Instead, he's trying to plant the seeds of belief for his Oilers ahead of the playoffs.

Connor McDavid wants you to know a few things about his Oilers.

Short-handed Oilers can't solve stingy Kings There are games that the Edmonton Oilers have survived without the two-headed monster known as β€œMcDrai.” But there are other opponents where the matchup just becomes all wrong.

There are games the Oilers can win without McDrai.
This was not one of those.

Oilers practice today: No McDavid, S. Skinner, Ekholm or Klingberg.
Otherwise full practice. Likely no skate tmw as team flies to Vegas.
Pickard starts in Vegas. Rodrigue, we suspect, could get San Jose on Thursday, his 1st NHL start.

Draisaitl saves the day. (And the sports writer’s copy.)
On another 50-goal, 100-point season by a player whose numbers portend one of the game’s all-time greats - and he’s only halfway done.

Three assists for Nugent-Hopkins, and Skinner is the best goalie on the ice at MSG with 21 saves, as Oilers go home at 2-2 on this trip.
Strong defensive game, excellent goaltending. If the offence can find itself, EDM could be in the process of finding a game that wins.

McDavid with 14:16 of ice time, his usual share of possession, and a few nice looks.
Not a single shot attempt from the Oilers captain however, who could use some of Lou DeBrusk's "shooter mentality."

Every player has a β€˜tell’ in their game when they are struggling.
For Connor McDavid, he turns everything into 5D chess.
Some simplify. The more 97 struggles, the more impossible plays he attempts.
Just an observation.

This might be the most important 1-0 game the Oilers have ever played at the home of the Islanders.

Oilers with an excellent start but can't solve Sorokin.
Watching to see how long the coach can resist moving away from his lines.

Kris Knoblauch has gone where all Oilers coaches go, eventually.
Playing 97 and 29 all night, while everyone else sits and watches.

This is the 4th line turnover Knoblauch called "the turning point." That's Jones giving it away.
But it's inside the NJ zone, 5 Oilers behind the puck.
Could he have got it deep? Sure.
But it did not give NJ transition
Knoblauch will likely change his view when he sees the video tmw.

How well is Edmonton playing right now?
The Oilers can beat you 1-0 or 5-3, at home or on the road. With Pickard or Skinner in goal.

If Hyman is back tmw v. CBJ, I'm also moving Jeff Skinner back into the Top 6.
He's played well in a depth role, earned a chance up top.

RNH McDavid Hyman
Podkolzin Draisaitl Skinner
Janmark Henrique Brown
Kapanen Ryan Perry

Yup, starting to feel effects of having 3 Top 6 wingers out. The Browns and Podkolzins can carry you so far, but missing Hyman, Arvidsson and Kane.
