EAST ASIA FILM FESTIVAL IRELAND
Welcome to the 8TH EAST ASIA FILM FESTIVAL IRELAND 2024
Thrilled to be introducing the Irish premiere of the 4K restoration of John Woo's The Killer, a formative film for me and a guaranteed good time at the pictures, as part of the East Asia Film Festival on Thursday 19th, 20.45, at the IFI. Full programme here: www.eaffi.ie

π΅πΈ π©πͺ Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania refused to accept the βMost Valuable Filmβ award for her documentary The Voice of Hind Rajab at the Cinema for Peace gala in Berlin on February 16.
The ceremony at Berlinβs Hotel Adlon Kempinski was attended by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and actor Kevin Spacey. The gala also honored former Israeli general Noam Tibon.
Ben Hania left her trophy behind in protest against the event providing βpolitical coverβ for genocide by βreframing mass civilian killing as self-defenseβ and βdenigrating protesters.β
βPeace is not a perfume sprayed over violence, so power can feel refined, and can feel comfortable. And cinema is not image-laundering,β she said.β
βThe Israeli army killed Hind Rajab; killed her family; killed the two paramedics who came to save her, with the complicity of the worldβs most powerful governments and institutionsβ¦I refuse to let their deaths become a backdrop for a polite speech about peace.β
She said she would return to accept the award when peace is βrooted in accountability for genocide.β
