Spanish PM Pedro SΓ‘nchez on Iran: β€œSpain is against this disaster. Because we understand that governments are here to improve people's lives, to provide solutions to problems, not to make people's lives worse.

Trump and Hegseth have everything figured out. We got strategic geniuses running this operation.

Trump has cornered himself with his war in Iran | Sidney Blumenthal The president needs a quick win to avoid a quagmire – but he needs a long war to justify potential emergency powers

"Trump has caught himself in a vicious cycle of repulsion and retribution. The more he repulses people, the more he resorts to retribution. Every downtick of unpopularity drives him to ever further acts of revenge. As he seeks to dominate, he loses ground..."

Penny Wong's touting double standards with absolute confidence and no shame. Apparently Iran must be attacked because it ignored a UN resolution - meanwhile Israel has ignored 173 resolutions adopted from 2015-2024 alone.

"But when it comes to starting wars and assassinating political leaders, there are no do-overs, easy resets or take-backs. Trump is unleashing his worst instincts on the global arena now, and the stability of the entire Middle East β€” and the global economy β€” are at stake"
No plan nor exit strategy.

The world is being run by the worst people. Its time to put the best in power. Here that means more Independents on the crossbench, not in captured duopoly parties. Then we'll have a truly ethical opposition, instead of a rabble of right-wing blowhards. Give #Auspol a conscience. Vote Independent.

Seems pretty obvious, these clowns never had a proper plan, probably never even thought about evacuations of civilians nor embassy staff because they made a stupid assumption Iran's response would be limited like June last year.

Iran’s targeting of airport, ports and hotels in reaction to US strikes has forced Gulf nations onto front lines of a war they want no part in Qatar, the UAE and other Gulf nations have spent years cultivating an image of being an oasis of stability in the Mideast. The current war risks undoing all that work.

Airports, ports & hotels: Having been dragged into a war of choiceβ€”which many are calling a war of aggressionβ€”all six Gulf Cooperation Council nations have been struck by Iran in response.

Not since the Gulf War of 1990-91 has the region faced so much peril & uncertainty.

No pay wall.

β€œMassive” war launched by a man with no plan. Again. Donald Trump is repeating George W. Bush's catastrophic mistakes.

Yesssss. Greens and Indies could well be Australia's political salvation.
The two major party paradigm is nearly done, demographics are seeing to that without much doubt. When combined LNP and ALP get first preference less than 50% it's on.
SA state election is going to be informative re ON.

I mean if we’re just going to keep on ignoring the UN and international rules and laws and give one certified war criminal and another pending war criminal a free pass, what in the ever-loving fuck do people think the outcome is going to be?

And that means you @albomp.bsky.social

Russia only gets an advantage with 1. higher oil prices (but their shadow oil tanker fleet is being challenged) and 2. less Patriot missiles for Ukraine.
OTOH Iran under attack means less material Shaheeds, whatever for Russia.
On balance no big advantage for Russia, marginal either way.

Nope, ships with Iranian oil for China will pass through the Straits of Hormuz with Iran's blessing. China's exports can still go to EU through Suez canal. You haven't thought this through.

Yep, 'mission accomplished' very soon like when the Patriot missiles run out but Iran still has ballistic missiles.
Jesus wept.

It will likely be the same as last time "Mission accomplished (biggly)" followed by constant disasters eg the ME in flames, oil at $200 a barrel.
Actually they'll probably make GWB's efforts look good.

Agree, the Sontarans don't eat food they take in direct energy ie electricity and would be great supporters of RE because they'd go around their electorates holding and connected to solar panels and setting a fantastic example! πŸ˜‚

Yes, great read Victoria well done, thanks.
Notice how some of our pollies followed suit, Dutton and the nuclear plan was a classic, a lie every minute on that. And here's the problem, Brandolini's law, it takes an order of magnitude more energy and effort to refute BS than to generate it.

Otherwise this war might be getting getting out of control but that might be after Trump announces 'mission accomplished biggly'
