TLDR:
3-2 in 22 players. 8th.
Won these — one for showing up, one for top 9. Missed out on top 5 which was a playmat.
Cool event! Glad it was ran.
R5 - My Mercury v Enemy Gamer’s Zwicky
Close. They got a Plutus for all game, but they can’t defend HQ and RnD, and scored.
Felt like a fair midrange netrunner game.
3-2.
Top cut on standard is going on rn — the guy I mention in the doc who beat me R6 and I’m loosely rooting for is in top 2. But they’re against another guy from the partybus — winning either way :).
After my lunch from a round that lasted 5 mins, I got non-gamed in 5 mins again. No ice against Docklands Pass Mercury with only agendas in hand.
2-2.
Yeah, I didn’t reply to the right point in the thread.
I also learnt that Greenmail gives you money for forfeiting it. Money issues last game would not have happened :(. Lost 12 credits in a tight credit game last round. Ah well.
2-1, although if I read what my cards did, maybe not.
R3 - My Mercury vs Zwicky
T1 Draw, Run RnD Steal, Run RnD Steal, Transfer of Wealth (Forgot Mercury Trigger)
T2 Another steal from RnD
T3 Malandragem hopping Biawak in hand for last steal.
Fucked up.
R2 - My Zwicky vs MuslihaT.
Incredibly close game. Can’t condense it into a skeet. Maybe one of the coolest corp games I’ve played.
Couldn’t find Spins nor Slash And Burn, and over ICEd my 3 centrals to prevent Jeitinho, but then couldn’t advance / have a remote server for scoring / Plutus.
1-1.
R1 - My Mercury vs Enemy Gamer’s synapse.
All centrals and the scoring remote where ICEd with end of the run, so I was stalemated until Hermes + Eru.
Got a 4-access one turn and got 4 points, next turn got another 3 from a top deck S Dobrado.
I lost 10 bucks from Bigger Picture, but I won :)
1-0
Day 2 theres a side event for Startup. Instead of a 17 page docco, I’ll actually just do a live round by round.
I mostly wrote this for myself in the end, as a way to start the process of coalescing my thoughts on Netrunner and what feels good and bad about it, as well as comparing it with LoR. It did start with novel, small scale intentions though haha.
Highlights in photos.
Yo. In Canberra for Netrunner Megacities.
I originally was going to write a 'round by round update!'
It turned into a 18 page treatise on my thoughts on Netrunner, with large comparisons to LoR. Whoops.
It's split into 3 sections:
1 - Round by Round.
2 - Competition.
3 - Netrunner Analyzed.
I don’t talk a lot about footy a lot but that last quarter in the cats game was absolutely fucking insane
Carn the catters
I used Lat in the tourney so I was pleasantly surprised to see this bomb ass Kakapo alt.
Was v. cool to win these via either raffle or placement, and squeezing into 8th and getting SDS feels good. Netrunner doesn’t do cash prizes afaik, since it’s a small not for profit, so art is a nice reward :).
I did mention the other side of the original spin doctors — when I selected them I had no idea the backside also had art, but instead of also being for spin doctor, they’re actually alts of Identities (LoR — think champions, except they’re passive effects you have all game, and determine region).
The last thing I won was for Top 8 — SDS Drone Deployment. I super fuck with the second side being like this kinda ad for the card lol.
I’ll mention if it wasn’t clear — 3 cards possible per card in a deck (akin to LoR), and so each prize gets you all 3 copies.
From the very breezy and fun ‘TO discretion’ prize, I was given this Simulchip.
I have no idea what the delightfully vague ‘TO discretion’ qualifications are. I’m gonna assume it’s cos I was running this card, and that it was my first tourney, and that I was doing ok. Could’ve been ring though.
For getting top 24 (out of 28), I won this — (the one in the centre).
White hair is super pog as per the rules of based
And, for LoR players, Spin Doctor is maybe in the top 3 most used cards. It’s genuinely more included than Mystic in PnZ. I personally kinda hate how omnipresent it is, but yeag.
I did wanna show what I got really quickly. I got a fair couple of alts for some cool cards.
Between rounds there was a raffle, wherein I selected the following (if I own the og it’s there to compare).
Class Act has full art on the flip side, and Spin Doctor has something too I’ll show at the end.
So it’s super rare.
I won a couple of things I’ll share when I get home. Watching top cut rn to see what high level netrunner looks like.
Was fun though! Thanks for running this @ whoever I ping for running this.
Overall, I placed 8th of 28. If I hadn’t timed out I would’ve top cut, which is a bit frustrating, but it’s good to get a feel for long quick you gotta play in a physical card game tournament. LoR is so different by having 3 decks — to time out, you need to be super slow with at least two decks,
R6 (last game pre top cut): Loud vs Mercury.
Was about to win via scoring out, but ended up killing them for lethal.
Ok that’s not true. I was a bit away from winning from scoring.
4-2!
R5 was Lat vs Ob.
Set up exodia really quick. 6 agendas for them before I won (context: first to 7 agendas win).
Was satisfied I won with lat, considering I was 0-2 with it at the time and it was the deck I liked most and most confident in lol.
3-2.
R4 was Lat vs Ag.
I’d never fought against Skunk + Anoetic. Then Ag and Nisei 2 forked me. 50 bucks or so and still couldn’t penetrate. For LoR players: they had 8 spell shields and it costs me 8+ mana and 1-2 cards every single time I wanna pop.
Still, could’ve won had I known. Close!
2-2.
R3 was Loud vs who up Not Remembering (MEEE).
Was about to win via scoring out, but ended up killing them for lethal (in game).
2-1.
R2 was Lat vs an Enemy Loud
LoR players will relate: I actually got timed out. You’ve got 40 mins a round and I’m playing an exodia deck that still takes 8-10 rounds to win after exodia and you need to genuinely draw your whole deck
They had more points even though I had the long game.
1-1.
R1 was Loud vs Arisana (no idea on spelling).
Was about to win via scoring out, but ended up killing them for lethal (in game).
1-0
Format: 6 rounds Swiss into Top 4 cut. 28 players.
Netrunner is asymmetric: theres a corp player and a runner player. You play each three times. I’m not gonna explain any further for those who don’t know netrunner, but for those that do, I brought Lat and Loud (Jinteki, the 1 net damage per agenda)
Yo.
Sleepy got me into a physical card game called Netrunner, and today was the Melbourne Districts tourney. First time going to a netrunner tourney so my main goal was
1: Learn what high stakes netrunner feels like to play
2: Try not to lose too hard. 50/50 would be pog, but 1-5 would be fine. ..+
Wrote this and immediately got reminded of darkin bloodletters right after lmoa.
Actually incredible how much of LoR felt beautiful and fun.
